|
|
Folks, A couple friends at my Local beach are riding 8-8.4's on 460's with a long extension. On light wind days they are the ones powered up. My current Gaastra 8.4 Cambered needs 490+ Extension, and my 490 weighs as much as a telephone pole. Im looking for a solid low wind planing Sail, no Cambers, that will Rig and hold a decent (good) shape on my nice 460 Mast. To be ridden w a Rocket 115 or Mistral 140. Light breeze. Long Fins. End of year deal would be nice. I weigh 170. Thoughts? Thanks in Advance |

Well. a Sailworks Retro 8.0 will rig on a 460 with some extension. Call
Bruce and see if am 8.5 might rig on a long extension, that combo is not
in their rigging guide.
They pull like a freight train. I am a satisfied Retro customer, though
right now, my Retros are 9.5, 6.5, 5.5

I rig my Hot sails Superfreak ultralight on a 460, not the fastest sail but definitely the lightest and softest. It can be rigged very loose with a tight leech for max power. Very versatile. |

Peter check your PM inbox.
I need a little more info on your mast, the current 460 .....?
is it SDM ? what brand ?
one possibility is use a carbon extendo to gain the length necessary
then you would have a short normal extension.
the long extension of course is a possibility, just not a highly desirable one. _________________ K4 fins

Hey Guys, Thx for the replies, my 460 is a Powerex I believe, but has a high Carbon Content, maybe 70-80%. It is regular diameter, not skinny. Also have a Carbon boom that will handle up to 8.5 size sails.
I do have 7.5 Retro, and it is/was a good sail, but its a 2003 or 04 has been repaired many times, and the Luff Sleeve just ripped again...So its replacement could be an 8.0 Retro, I'll check out the Superfreaks as well. Looking to get a decent deal if anyone knows of anywhere....Ebay listings are light....Thanks again. |

Get the 8.0 Retro, it'll have more power than most 8.5s. I switched to Sailworks about 5-6 years ago, never been happier, tons of power, great control.
Some good discounts on the Sailworks site right now. _________________ Spennie the Wind Junkie
