|
|
I want to windsurf the ocean in lighter winds than I can now. My biggest combo is a 93 liter board and 5.8 sail, and many times that combo is just a bit too small.
I am thinking of a 105 liter board and a bigger sail. The sail must go on a 430 RDM, I will not be going to a 460. I have tried some 6.2 power wave sails but that was on the 93 liter. Are there any wave sails more powerful than the 6.2's that will rig on 430? Maybe the 6.2 on a 105 would be enough.
Any suggestions?
Me= 175 lbs. experienced wave sailor, North East USA. |

Do not be afraid to go even bigger with the board. I use a 107 and 5.7 at 160 lbs
Now thinking about 110 l. I have used 115 and 5.7 and that is ok.
It really depends on the board some work well for wave riding others do not.
it think the bigger sail just gets in the way for riding but it depends on wind direction side on needs more sail power side off less. But that is my style.
In the surf I am not so concerned about planing on the way out in light winds. |

On the East Coast, you def need a bigger kit if you want more days.
Compared to 10 years ago bigger wave boards are here.
I had been using the Exocet Cross 117. Still like it in some conditions, but I got convinced by a pretty good sailor to try the Chango 109 and now it's my go-to. The Exo wave 105 is fast, maybe not as loose as the Chango, and there's probably 10 other boards that work.....comes down to price and subtleties.
With a bigger board, you may not need to jump huge in sail range. Fins are important worth playing with....
Bigger multifins seem to accomodate volume, but prob can't don't plane as quick.
A Bunch of bigger sails in the 6.2 will fit a 430.
This post will get responses , because there are alot of pretty good options at this time. _________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=zw0MgkO7VXw |

How about Exocet Carve? Did anybody use that board? Does it work in waves? _________________ Andrew

Sealion baby!
this shot taken as winds started to build during Wave Jam Final Day (rider: Keith M). Note, in the pic N wind around 10 to 15 mph!
Recently, I have been riding the SL Pro with a 4.5m in 5 to 10 mph and it works quite well! Side to side-off conditions, and a decent swell of course...
Here is another shot light air ready to pick up a ride in big swell during Leslie in 5 mph S wind. Who would believe you could be out there catching killer waves on a windsurfing kit!
Head Carry the SeaLion too!

Nice guys, keep it coming. I think 6.2 or so on a 105 should do the trick, just have to narrow the board choices down.
I think FSW shapes are out for me, I have tried a few and they were just too stiff in that volume. So I need good float, planing, upwind, and super loose! prob not possible?
Maybe a multifin? |

Seriously, you need to demo a Sealion, IF your primary spot hosts light side to side-off winds. Here in Hatteras, we are guaranteed side/side-off somewhere on any given day.
Heck I am excited about the upcoming weekend with S wind in the mid-teens and 5ft surf in the forecast! 4.5m and the Sealion Pro will work great if its blowing side shore at 5mph up to 18 mph!
Higher than that, I am on the 92ltr twin!
PS: anyone see the long range swell forecast for Hatteras next week?! Return to long period SE swell and S wind! Regardless of wind velocity, its going to be killer!! Any Fall Hatteras visiting Wave gurus going to be here next week?!
