I have an old large HPL Carbon boom than has broken snap clips on the tail end. I've been unable to find replacement parts, as the red booms had a larger diameter than the more popular blue ones. I was wondering if maybe I could drill holes through the tail piece and just drop a bolt through to lock the extension in place, anyone ever drill holes in carbon? Maybe a small pilot hole then gradually go larger? Or is carbon more forgiving?
Thanks!

No problem drilling carbon at all. From a practical standpoint, it behaves pretty much like fiberglass but it's actually easier on your tools. In your case just drilling a couple of holes, you'd never notice. For sure a 1/8" pilot would be prudent.

What I would do in your place is get a couple of pit pins http://www.dynamicflight.com.au/images/AccessoriesPics/A10PitPinThumb.jpg

Any marine supply place will have them, and then drill your holes same size, then you don't have to mess with nuts and bolts when you want to adjust your booms.
