On a scale of one to 10, one being a sideshore wave board and 10 a fast narrow modern slalom board, your Tempo is a 4. 264 maybe a 3.
Get an Energy, Veloce, Vicace, Sputnick, Bee, all for less than 100 bucks.
Those are close to 8's out of 10.
Get a RoqueWave 8'10" (don't you weigh 190?), HyperTeck 8'8", Preisters, Pettits, and you're close to 90's.
Get a year 2000 slalom board, and you're at 10.

Ive had a Veloce, I can keep up with it on the quatro FSW. The tempo is about right, I dont want full on slalom , but some slalom characteristics just in a smaller and more practical package (the Tempo footstrap area leaves much to be desired). Something like the tempo shrunk down to 80-85L with a single backstrap would be ideal

p.s. I have a Randy French 75 Ltr slalomish board that is in primo
shape and would make a great jump board. I couldn't give it away at the
last swap.

Sounds good, thats about what I had in mind Very Happy

There is a problem here...
When YOU had your Veloce, you were not skilled.
When you rode your FSW, you are now more skilled.
Veloce is a fast freeride, needs some sail power. NO modern FSW can stay in the ballpark for topspeed with it.
Most FSW riders will agree the Fanatic is the fastest, the JP close, the RRD the most controlled, and the Quatros the best for turning and slashing.
I have the JP. Veloce is much faster. Skill level has lots to do with it, as FSW''s are easier to ride, but slower.

I agree with you there, but I can keep up with the veloce when a 20+ year experienced sailor rides it when im on the quatro. I had a 1m sail size advantage, but it was still a good race.

Sounds like a fair race to me.
Did the Veloce rider have to use a 1993 freeride sail also?

We were both using modern aerotech phantoms, but 130L w/race fin vs 95L with wave fin so we figured it was a fair race Laughing

Does many years of sailing mean you're fast?? I pass many guys when they fall in the water on their gybes.

It certainly doesnt, I blast by plenty of people who have obviosuly sailed for a long time and jibe around me when im re-waterstarting. Mad But he has the experience and was speed sailor in the past and is has spent a lot of his time on the water working at speed. I on the other hand just rig 1 size too big sheet in and hold on, with many spectacular crashes in the meantime.

I have seen you sail a few times. I've been thinking about what tip I could pass along if I saw you on the beach. You spend so much time on the water I have only seen you on the beach once.

For me, when I rig big, I find it much harder to control the sail and complete a gibe. So,,, my suggestion is to work on your efficiency/planing skills so you can rig a little smaller.

Where at?
I am trying to work on efficiency more, but the winds have been so on/off lately its hard to decide what is even too big anymore. My early planing has gotten much better in the last month and Ive gotten better at pumping onto a plane and getting planing fast.It is nice to use the right sail size.
