Peahi was hitting big this week.
Kanaha and Hookipa also once the wind started.
Logo to mast high in spots out of Kanaha since Wednesday, though you had to go up to Camp One today to find that. It was overhead everywhere.
3.7 yesterday
4.0 today.
The whole last year has been memorable. It was this big a couple weeks ago already. The wind has been blowing for more than a year without the usual winter breaks. |

For real question....
How big is Hookipa when Jaws is pushing 50'? Is the channel still open at Hookipa? |

It varies, They dont always go off together.
It was big this week but not monstrous at Hookipa.
lots of foam for some reason.
The launch is protected for the same reason it is scary- because it is so tight in there among the rocks, often not much in the wind. |

Thanks for the answer. I've only gone to Maui in the spring and late summers, so no action at Jaws.
Have sailed backyards/revelations when the phantom was breaking non stop. It's atop and between the two breaks, but no biggie, you just slow down and pinch to get to Revelations, for a 12 bottom turn/OTLip combo into and sometimes thru Velzyland, with the surfers THEN, cheering for you. It got different by '90.
My trips to Oahu were mostly '87 thru '92. I got to sail Sunset when the surfer's just looked in wonder. Got to sail Chuns and Lanikea, something impossible after the '90's. And 7thHole Kahuku, now you can't even park within a mile...superfast left, backside wave riding, wish the shove-it was invented before then.
Glad I don't need to search for surfsailing sites nowadaze. |

I"m sure you've seen vid of Jaws at max sizing, whether it's 40' or 70+' by whoever's measurement.
It's no picnic to get to the overlook. |

When it was biggest there was no wind. As it got lower the wind picked up, so the sailing was da kine.
Lowers was head to logo high, clean and long, with 4.2 in my and your sons sailor size. |

I have a shot on the biggest day. How do I post it?
They are developing Peahi. Depending on the rain and road work there can be fifty people on the cliff. |

I've seen tow in vids that show well double that at the cliffs, most walking in throught the jungle, avoiding the mud bog road that traps 4 wheel drives. |
