Ok so I know what freestyle is but what is the exact definition of "freemove" in terms of

1) Move types (examples of "move" types)
2) Equipment (sail/board/fins)

Thanks.

There is no exact definition of "freemove" as it is a term invented by windsurfing companies to describe boards that used to be called Bump and Jump but that now also include some lighter wind models. You might think of freemove boards as situated between onshore wave models and freeride boards.

AFAIK their are no specific moves, so anything that is freestyle in nature, which would include really basic stuff like , clew first, backwinded sailing.....

several boards have called themselves freemove theTabou 3S comes to mind more so tha any Tabou 3S:: the below from Tabou, my own description would be more wave/ manuveour oriented...

One of the greatest all-rounder’s available, the 3S keeps getting better! This 3-in-1 board gives you everything. A one shot wonder that jumps, jybes, rides waves and does freestyle moves while being able to keep up with the freeriders. The 3S turns like a Pocket, with the speed of the Rocket! What more could you ask for?

JPs version in an attempt to define what it is and RELATIVELY SUBTLE
is a good phrase.

JP currently offer four different small board ranges. The "Free Move" is essentially a 'three style' (i.e. Freeride/freestyle/wave) range, but as there are also parallel 'Freestyle', 'Freestyle/Wave' and Wave ranges, the precise differences between these various options is relatively subtle. Hence our inclusion of both the 255 Freestyle Wave and the 258 Wave in this test alongside this 261, to try and sort things out...

grey area, with fuzzy , depends on what it means to who

Ah got it, many thanks for your replies.

Basically, the B&J term has been replaced by "freemove".
So B&J is typically Gorge like sailing with freestyle moves minus the sliding tricks. A freemove board would be going much faster (with bigger fin) to get big air as well.

Once (not anytime soon) I master the spock/grubby/flaka, I think I would return back to freemove (B&J) which is more of my style of sailing vs. freestyle at all time. I have the need for speed as well Smile

my concern 4 this category is confusion

freestyle - okay clear
freemove - described here
freeride - for average joes
freerace - racier for average joes
freeformula - formula "not for racing" as per discussion

why are there not freelongboards then ??
and there are funboards too - others are not fun ?

wrote a small piece on this discussion:
http://joewindsurfer.blogspot.ca/2012/09/free-shortboards-117-to-170-liters.html

this is all too confusing to me and what will a newbie think ?
i hope kiting takes a lesson from this and keeps it simple
locally it feels like the kites are taking over the beaches
my concern - hope local windsurf shops manage to stay open
we have four(4) windsurf shops and some are starting to sell kites too

keep on sailing in the free world Smile

Here is what I would hope it means: A freestyle board that tracks well. Many freestyle boards are lots of fun to sail as all-purpose lighter wind boards, because they plane very early, jump well, and will carve any kind of turn you want. The tradeoff is they require more sailor input to rip in a straight line. A serious new school freestyle sailor is not overly concerned about the straight line sailing, but for someone who is just fooling around with freestyle, or someone who has no interest in freestyle but would like to sail a 5.2 in 6.2 conditions, or wants to slash around on a 6.2 like they were on a waveboard with a 4.7, a freestyle board that will go also go straight is the answer.

The old JP Freestyle boards fit the bill perfectly (I still have my 109). I also have a Fanatic Skate 99 that requires that I remind I want to go straight every five seconds or so. I use them for lighter wind wavesailing, bump, and carving freestyle (I don't do the new school). What they're not great at is disorganized chop...you'll take a pounding.

So from context I understand what they are saying, but I've never heard
the term "Turns like a pocket", in fact, it makes no sense, since the
pocket is the tight vertical section of a wave, just in front of the break.

So I guess I could ask for an Ad man that wasn't jacked up on bad poetry.

this thread is a year old, youse guys must be bored .

The 3S which turns like a POCKET refers to Pocket Wave, one of Tabous wave boards.
