Can we build a recreation center on lot 1?

indoor/outdoor swimming pool
running track
climbing wall
basket ball
fitness room for crossfit
game room with foosball, pingpong, etc.

I'd vote for that!

Environmentalists attack wake-boarding plan in Hood River
http://www.katu.com/politics/Environmentalists-try-to-stop-wake-boarding-park-in-Hood-River-164538576.html

"In many ways it is a battle for the soul of Hood River," said Brent Foster, the attorney for Friends of the Hood River Waterfront, Center for Biological Diversity and Northwest Environmental Defense Center.

Foster is the former executive director of Columbia Riverkeeper and was the top environmental aide to former state attorney general John Kroger. Foster resigned and was suspended from the bar for 30 days after admitting he lied when he denied taking a water sample to support a criminal pollution case against a Hood River juice factory.

As I thought, no "conviction" here Mr. Phillips. No more a "Liar" than you are having stated so.

Why don't you come back when you have something constructive and truly informative to add to this conversation?

hein, a recreation center could be built on Lot 1 but it would likely need to be a commercial for-profit enterprise. The rec center idea has been batted around the Port, City and Parks and Rec and while folks think it might be a nice addition to the county, no one has figured out a good way to fund it. Coming up with funding for construction might be possible--funding for ongoing operations is much trickier. The swimming pool is the Parks and Rec District's main expense--it is funded partially with entry fees and partially with property tax dollars. If a rec center was to be funded the same way it would take a county wide vote--in the current economic climate, I don't think you are going to get the voters to impose another tax on themselves in order to run a rec center. I suppose there might be some way to run it as a not-for-profit--but again, you'd need to demonstrate to the Port long term feasibilty.
If this is a concept you really like--try to come up with a couple of business plans that would support it.

What's wrong with the private, for profit centers like the Hood River Sports Club, Big Gym, CrossFit, Snap Fitness, etc.? Does everything have to be communist/fascist/private-public garbage these days? This is still America, isn't it?
