Can anyone recommend a (very) affordable waterproof GPS? The only feature I really want is a speed recorder, and a very small size. I cant seem to find anything in the normal places, but ive seen them. |

I don't wish to sound like a A/H
but for 50 do you think you can purchase a GPS , let alone waterproof NEW ?
The wrist models from Garmin 205/305 work ok
but are NOT waterproof for extended periods, also salt water in particular will corrode the re charging points, if using this model or similar I recommend in a waterproof pouch.

the 205/305 arediscontinued but available as new or rebuilt, even on ebay

is the newest FORETREX, which will do what you want, but I would enclose in a waterproof pouch anyway. _________________ K4 fins

been using the 205 directly on my wrist for the 3rd season now, never had a problem. I use it in saltwater and seldom even rinse it, but just wipe the connectors dry with my teeshirt after a session, no trace of corrosion.
the integration with their GarminConnect online service is pretty user friendly too: plug into USB, go to GarminConnect, Upload New Sessions and voila.
I just free-ride on a choppy bay, nothing fancy. If I were to use it in the waves or got catapulted a lot, I'd likely put it in a waterproof bag as U2 suggested |

The Forerunner 205 & 305 are the same unit, except the 305 has a heart rate monitor ( a band that secures around your chest) and color of the unit itself, these are WRIST models, like a large watch.
I'm an authorized Garmin dealer for North America sales , and can quote $$ to you deliverd. _________________ K4 fins

Around 2006/07 I had a Navman Sport Tool M300 that I think could be bought new for around $100. It was more durable than other gps units I've used (garmin 201, several locosys GT-31 variants), and no problems with it in water, including salt water. The primary drawback for me was that it had no ability to record tracks that could be sent to a computer. It simply displayed a running tally of time, distance, max speed, direction, and instantaneous speed. The other drawback is that they are kind of big - larger than the garmin 201 and about the same size as the locosys gt-31. The arm strap was very nice to use though.
Here's a picture of what I had:
I don't think they make these any more but you may be able to find some inventory still online or maybe a used one. It also looks like they may have newer models for sale now with similar features.
