Thought this was cool. I've seen the inflatable SUP's for a while and always wondered why they never put a mast track on one. Now if only they could make an inflatable mast, boom and sail battens. Oh and one single inflation point for everything.
Saw it here:

I've got an inflatable SUP a C4. Great to leave in the trunk and then stop by the lake on the way home for a quck session.
If I wanted to WS I could probably modify a Streamlined extension to pass a 6' long tie down strap through and then just circle it around the board and cinch it tight. With no footstraps, and molded 9" fins it would probably work great. Not sure that a centerboard would be required. |

I don't think Mistral Windglider comes close to the stiffness that the new inflatable SUP boards have. |

colorit - been there, done that, doesn't work. The strap vibrates as it moves through the water, and you would not believe how much this affects everything - board barely goes forward, board goes sideways. A plain strap doesn't work. To convert a standard inflatable, I now think you need a board on the deck to hold the mast base, and a board on the bottom to hold a center fin (you need a center fin) - ratchet strap to sandwich. Do-able. In my mind the trick is making the center fin folding, so that the whole things remains portable. |
