Another study says watching Fox News makes you dumber

I've lost count of how many of these studies have been done at this point, but I guess it's time to add another one to the pile. Watching Fox News makes you less informed about events than not watching any news at all.

Gee the only real liberal media right now anywhere on a TV dial and Maddow kicking butt in the ratings, so what does the head do he is bringing on right wingers and centrists.

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/5/2/1658327/-Y-all-think-Fox-is-in-trouble-Read-up-on-what-s-happening-at-MSNBC

Y'all think Fox is in trouble? Read up on what's happening at MSNBC.

Quote:
Andrew Lack, current head of MSNBC news, is doing everything he can do to make MSNBC a CNN look alike or worse. I suggest y’all read this article, the title of which is telling:

With Trump in the White House, MSNBC is resisting the resistance.

www.huffingtonpost.com/...

Lack has a not at all shy agenda which is put forth quite directly in this article. He has already gone along way with his agenda, firing much of the day time staff of MSNBC, and in the process getting rid of most of the diversity of the MSNBC bench---which is now possibly whiter than CNN or FOX.

And his bringing on Nicolle Wallace, Meagan Kelly and possibly, oh gag me with a spoon Hugh Hewitt for his own show on MSNBC.

New York magazine reported hours later that conservative activist and radio host Hugh Hewitt, already a regular contributor to MSNBC, was in talks with the network about a weekend show.
From outside, it might seem odd to see the premier liberal network veering right, even as liberals around the country are fired up to resist the administration of President Donald Trump.
But from inside, the news about Wallace and Hewitt was seen as just two more steps toward the full execution of the vision of Andy Lack, the NBC News executive who oversees MSNBC. He has made quite clear his plan to move the cable news network away from its bedrock liberalism and toward a more centrist approach personified by Brian Williams — even including hosts of a conservative bent, as typified by hosts like Megyn Kelly or Greta Van Susteren, who Lack brought over from Fox News.
But, Andy Lack has a problem. The current night time line up at MSNBC is seeing soaring ratings.

“Hayes, Maddow, O’Donnell ― the entire primetime lineup is doing record numbers and Lack can’t stand it. It makes him furious,” said one senior MSNBC source, echoing the sentiment of many other insiders who spoke to HuffPost only on the condition of anonymity.

The MSNBC top talent is starting to bring the feud into the open, as was clear tonight in the toss off from Rachel to Lawrence, when he congratulated her for being the now #1 in her cable news time slot, and himself #2. It was not subtle, if you have read this article. O’Donnell’s contract is soon up for renewal. We’ll see.

Meanwhile, Greta Van Susteren’s ratings are in comparison, crap. Andrew Lack is responsible for bringing Van Susteren to MSNBC, as he was also responsible for that train wreck/unwatchable most boring show of last year, when politics was on fire, in a plumb time slot, that featured Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, can’t remember the name of it and don’t care, nor does anyone else. Oh the wasted eyeballs.

Oh and another interesting stat in this article, Joy Reid who was passed up for the prime time slot that Van Susteren got in a greased slide from Lack, now gets a greater share on Saturday morning MSNBC than Morning Joe. MSNBC spokesperson says you can’t “compare apples and oranges. Indeed.

And I personally think Van Susteren sucks. Don’t care about her politics so much, as I think her show is totally boring. She lacks any sort or dynamic. She is another Halperin/Heilemann attempt by Andrew Lack to bore us all into submission.

Every hour that Andy has not touched are the strongest hours on the network. Everything he has touched is lower rated.
Some of you may just give a pfffffft to cable news in general, and that’s OK. But for some of the rest of us, we don’t want to do without the night time line up on MSNBC, particularly Rachel. Right wing news/talk rules almost the ENTIRE radio world, and much of the TV news world on FOX. CNN is FOX lite, maybe even worse for it's on going pablum. MSNBC, at least in prime time, is our only spot on TV news, and I think it’s important to fight Andrew Lack.

I have given you here just a taste of so much more that’s in this in depth article. PLEASE read it. Also, there is a link in this article to let MSNBC know how you feel about all this. I was not able to re-produce it here.

and a good read

Good God. Trump tells Comey he'd best stick to the truth if he spills any beans, because one never knows whether the beans are on tape. Media distortions run amok:

• "I'm taping everything anybody says."

• "You'd better not say ANYTHING or I'll have you prosecuted."

• "Richard Nixon has nothing on me."

• To Sean Spicer: "Can you guarantee us the White House isn't taping Oval Office discussions?"

• To Sean Spicer: "Can you guarantee us the White House isn't taping Oval Office discussions?"

• To Sean Spicer: "Can you guarantee us the White House isn't taping Oval Office discussions?"

• To Sean Spicer (4 times, worded only slightly differently, in one briefing): "Can you guarantee us the White House isn't taping Oval Office discussions?"

• To Spicer, when DNI Chief Clapper changed one inconsequential word in his endlessly repeated answer to the endlessly repeated question, "Is there Russian collaboration?" "What did he mean by that?" Endlessly Repeated Answer: "He's in another department; you'll have to ask them/him."

Gotcha, Gotcha, Gotcha.

• To Spicer, as though it was breaking news, after the administration said countless times that Flynn was asked to resign and once used the word, "fired": "YOU MEAN HE WAS FIRED?" WTH do they think "asked to resign" means?

I can think of no group of professionals -- or anyone over the age of 6 --DUMBER than the media, and it pervades not only their bias but their outright stupidity. They remind me of my bud's city-bred wife who picked up a natural candle-holder off the ground and was ready to take it home, spray paint it, and add it to her kitchen table until Ron pointed out that they were in a pasture. For any media personnel here, I'll explain: IT WAS A COWPIE. For any big-city, east- or west-coast newsguys, I'll explain further: IT WAS A PILE OF DRIED COW SHIT.

Sinclair Requires TV Stations to Air Segments That Tilt to the Right
By SYDNEY EMBERMAY 12, 2017

They are called “must-runs,” and they arrive every day at television stations owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group — short video segments that are centrally produced by the company. Station managers around the country are directed to work them into the broadcast over a period of 24 or 48 hours.

Since November 2015, Sinclair has ordered its stations to run a daily segment from a “Terrorism Alert Desk” with updates on terrorism-related news around the world. During the election campaign last year, it sent out a package that suggested in part that voters should not support Hillary Clinton because the Democratic Party was historically pro-slavery. More recently, Sinclair asked stations to run a short segment in which Scott Livingston, the company’s vice president for news, accused the national news media of publishing “fake news stories.”

Sinclair VP of News: Announcement from KSNV News 3, Las Vegas, March 23, 2017 Video by Brian Hartley
As Sinclair prepares to expand its stable of local TV stations with a proposed acquisition of Tribune Media — which would add 42 stations to Sinclair’s 173 — advocacy groups have shown concern about the size and reach the combined company would have. Its stations would reach more than 70 percent of the nation’s households, including many of the largest markets.

Critics of the deal also cite Sinclair’s willingness to use its stations to advance a mostly right-leaning agenda. That practice has stirred wariness among some of its journalists concerned about intrusive direction from headquarters.

That is what has happened in Seattle, a progressive city where Sinclair owns the KOMO broadcast station. In interviews over the past several days, eight current and former KOMO employees described a newsroom where some have chafed at Sinclair’s programming directives, especially the must-runs, which they view as too politically tilted and occasionally of poor quality. They also cited features like a daily poll, which they believe sometimes asks leading questions.

The Sinclair Broadcast Group, the largest owner of local TV stations, serving 81 markets, wants to expand by buying Tribune Media’s TV stations, many of which are in larger markets, like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

The journalists at KOMO described small acts of rebellion, like airing the segments at times of low viewership or immediately before or after commercial breaks so they blend in with paid spots. They all spoke on condition of anonymity, citing fear of reprisal from the company.

Those interviewed said that being on the other side of the country from the corporate headquarters outside Baltimore gave them some breathing room. But not always.

In late 2013, for instance, after The Seattle Times wrote an editorial criticizing Sinclair’s purchase of KOMO, Sinclair ordered KOMO to do a story critical of the newspaper industry, and of The Seattle Times in particular, according to two of the people interviewed.

KOMO journalists were surprised in January when, at a morning planning meeting, they received what they considered an unusual request. The station’s news director, who normally avoided overtly political stories, instructed his staff to look into an online ad that seemed to be recruiting paid protesters for President Trump’s inauguration. Right-leaning media organizations had seized on the ad, which was later revealed as a hoax, as proof of coordinated efforts by the left to subvert Mr. Trump.

Only after reporters had left the room did they learn the origin of the assignment, two of them said: The order had come down from Sinclair.

In a telephone interview on Thursday, Mr. Livingston rebuffed suggestions that Sinclair pushed right-leaning views. “We work very hard to be objective and fair and be in the middle,” he said. “I think maybe some other news organizations may be to the left of center, and we work very hard to be in the center.”

He said multiple times that local news was “at the heart of Sinclair” and that the company was committed to its communities.

With its offices in a glass-walled building across the street from the Space Needle, KOMO, an ABC affiliate, is one of several broadcast stations that beam news to the country’s 14th-biggest television market. Since its founding in 1953, the station has covered the staples of local news: civic politics, emergencies, transportation and crime.

KOMO’s experience under Sinclair could foretell the kinds of challenges the company would face with its news staffs in bigger cities. If it acquires Tribune, Sinclair would gain stations in the nation’s three largest markets — New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Not only are cities like those more liberal, but the journalists who work there tend to be more experienced — and resistant to what they might see as ideologically slanted content. While most viewers never know the corporate ownership of the stations they watch, audiences might notice politically-leaning commentary in the news cycle.

where is the liberal media pointing out it took years for us to find out the truth about Nixon, and to this date we still do not have all the crimes he commited down.

In fact the FBI knew and did nothing with it. It took a brave person in the FBI to come and seek out reporters that might do the reporting. Even then the reporters had a hard time with the WPO to cover the story. It took this FBI inside to out when the 100s in the FBI knew and would not out the criminal president.

That FBI agent did not allow his name to be revealed till he died.

Again Nixon was using the IRS also to go after people and other government agencies and those agencies kept their mouths shut. The men involved in the break-ins of the DNC were CIA.

In this case, we have the worst enemy of democracy attacking the USA, Putin kill anyone who talks bad about him, he has stolen trillions of dollars of the Russian people money and can never allow any democracy because he has committed crimes on humanity.

My gosh, we appointed a special prosecutor to investigate Carters Peanut farm, over peanuts.

yep the only media in the USA with some ultra partisan liberals and they are getting the highest ratings so what does the right wing owned media do. Well gee only every branch of government is controlled by the ultra right, so do we need some objective reporting? As we know every single national radio show is ultra right wing and has been for 40 years, not one liberal is allowed nationwide.

well here we go.. we remove the liberals and hire more ultra partisan right wingers specially when the liberals are the higher rated in the media right now.

Lawrence O'Donnell Update: MSNBC is Finally Negotiating Due to Intense Fan Pressure

Quote:
The soap opera drama surrounding Lawrence O'Donnell's contract negotiations with MSNBC is heating up. In a good way. Last week an article on the Huffington Post revealed that MSNBC was not actively negotiating to re-sign O'Donnell whose contract expires in June. That news startled his fans and the media world at large.

O'Donnell is a core part of the team that is currently burning up cable news. MSNBC's ratings are reaching record highs. For the past three weeks they have even bested Fox News in the critical 25-54 year old advertising demographic. That was considered unthinkable a few weeks ago. The brightest star in the network's universe is Rachel Maddow, whose ratings have soared in sync with her stellar reporting on Donald Trump. O'Donnell has nearly matched her success and beaten Fox News perennial, Sean Hannity, on some nights.

Insider speculation has pointed to NBC News chief Andy Lack as the obstacle to O'Donnell's renewal. Since his ascension, Lack has steered MSNBC to a decidedly more conservative slant. He hired Greta Van Susteren from Fox News. Also dinosaur conservative George Will. He gave former George W. Bush communications director, Nicolle Wallace, her own show. And he's giving Hugh Hewitt one on the weekend. Why he thinks that any conservative viewers are going to tune in to MSNBC is a complete mystery. They have been trained for years to regard the network as something just this side of Satanic. Van Susteren's show is already a dismal failure that brings down the programs that follow it.

Lack's programming moves are disconcerting for several reasons. They make no sense from a business perspective. It is ridiculous to upend a schedule that is showing such success and is still growing. It alienates the core audience that is the foundation of that success. But there is also talk that Lack's motivation is to suck up to Donald Trump. Considering Trump's record low standing in the polls, that may be the dumbest reason of all to upset a winning formula.

Shortly after the HuffPost article, another appeared on Showbiz411 with a disturbingly declarative headline. It blared "MSNBC Ending Lawrence O’Donnell 'The Last Word' Show Despite Top Ratings (Exclusive)." It's author, Roger Friedman, began by saying "I can confirm that MSNBC is ending the top rated 'The Last Word' with Lawrence O’Donnell." That, unsurprisingly, created a stir among viewers. Even worse, Friedman cited sources that said "O’Donnell’s tireless criticism of Donald Trump" was the reason for the cancellation.

So here's the good news. Friedman just published a new article that contradicts his prior exclusive. Apparently the outcry from viewers was so powerful that it pushed MSNBC to the negotiating table. Indeed, there has been a flood of angry viewers swarming Facebook and Twitter in defense of O'Donnell. The result appears to be the first serious talks between the network and its star.

It's too soon, however, to declare victory. Until there's a signed contract that locks O'Donnell into his current time slot, fans need to keep the pressure on. But they can do so with the knowledge that such tactics are working. You can call them at 212-664-4444 and email them at letters@msnbc.com.

There has never been more need for honest progressive reporting on television. The Era of Trump cannot be allowed to dispense the lies and propaganda that are emblematic of that movement. And with Fox News in upheaval (having lost its CEO Roger Ailes and its biggest star Bill O'Reilly to sex scandals), this is not the time to retreat. Activists who are seeking to turn Congress and the White House blue need to recognize that the media battlefield is just as important as the electoral one. Carry on progressive soldiers - to victory.

Stories of Trump spilling classified information and trying to influence the former FBI director has dominated news around the world -- except in those places where it could not penetrate. On 4chan, Fox News, InfoWars, and right-wing radio, it was as if the scoops didn't matter or even exist.

Charlie Warzel, senior technology writer for Buzzfeed News, monitored the alternate reality of the week’s news in the pro-Trump media. He and Bob discuss the flurry of distractions and counter-narratives, including the now-debunked conspiracy theory behind the unsolved murder of a DNC staffer last summer.

Can Trump jail journalists?
Quote:
Before firing FBI Director James Comey, President Trump reportedly raised the possibility of jailing journalists. Will his next FBI director be more willing to follow through on that threat?
