Quote:
MILWAUKEE — If President Trump’s first tumultuous weeks have done nothing else, at least they have again made us a nation of readers.

As Americans grapple with the unreality of the new administration, George Orwell’s “1984” has enjoyed a resurgence of interest, becoming a surprise best seller and an invaluable guide to our post-factual world.

On his first full day in office Mr. Trump insisted that his inaugural crowd was the largest ever, a baseless boast that will likely set a pattern for his relationship both to the media and to the truth.

At an event marking Black History Month last week, the president took a detour from a discussion of Frederick Douglass — he described the abolitionist as “an example of somebody who’s done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more” — to talk about the press. “A lot of the media is actually the opposition party — they’re so biased,” he said. “So much of the media is the opposition party and knowingly saying incorrect things.”

Mr. Trump understands that attacking the media is the reddest of meat for his base, which has been conditioned to reject reporting from news sites outside of the conservative media ecosystem.

For years, as a conservative radio talk show host, I played a role in that conditioning by hammering the mainstream media for its bias and double standards. But the price turned out to be far higher than I imagined. The cumulative effect of the attacks was to delegitimize those outlets and essentially destroy much of the right’s immunity to false information.
We thought we were creating a savvier, more skeptical audience. Instead, we opened the door for President Trump, who found an audience that could be easily misled.

The news media’s spectacular failure to get the election right has made it only easier for many conservatives to ignore anything that happens outside the right’s bubble and for the Trump White House to fabricate facts with little fear of alienating its base.

Unfortunately, that also means that the more the fact-based media tries to debunk the president’s falsehoods, the further it will entrench the battle lines.

During his first week in office, Mr. Trump reiterated the unfounded charge that millions of people had voted illegally. When challenged on the evident falsehood, Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, seemed to argue that Mr. Trump’s belief that something was true qualified as evidence. The press secretary also declined to answer a straightforward question about the unemployment rate, suggesting that the number will henceforth be whatever the Trump administration wants it to be.

He can do this because members of the Trump administration feel confident that the alternative-reality media will provide air cover, even if they are caught fabricating facts or twisting words (like claiming that the “ban” on Muslim immigrants wasn’t really a “ban”). Indeed, they believe they have shifted the paradigm of media coverage, replacing the traditional media with their own.

In a stunning demonstration of the power and resiliency of our new post-factual political culture, Mr. Trump and his allies in the right media have already turned the term “fake news” against its critics, essentially draining it of any meaning. During the campaign, actual “fake news” — deliberate hoaxes — polluted political discourse and clogged social media timelines.

Some outlets opened the door, by helping spread conspiracy theories and indulging the paranoia of the fever swamps. For years, the widely read Drudge Report has linked to the bizarre conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who believes that both the attacks of Sept. 11 and the Sandy Hook shootings were government-inspired “false flag” operations.

For conservatives, this should have made it clear that something was badly amiss in their media ecosystem. But now any news deemed to be biased, annoying or negative can be labeled “fake news.” Erroneous reports that the bust of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had been removed from the Oval Office or misleading reports that sanctions against Russia had been lifted will be seized on by Mr. Trump’s White House to reinforce his indictment.

again if this had been a liberal making up a fake terrorist attack the entire media would be all over it. She even tried to say she misspoke and had another word in mind , but that word would not fit. Then she blames the media but another one comes to the rescue, she had mad the same claim to another media. So she was doubling down and was caught. If a liberal ever lied like this they would be fired.

Remember dan rathers team was fired for telling the truth about Bush and being AWOL.

Conway struggles to shake her made up ‘massacre’
02/06/17 12:30 PM—UPDATED 02/06/17 02:02 PM
By Steve Benen
Quote:
Kellyanne Conway, perhaps best known for her defense of “alternative facts,” was eager to defend Donald Trump’s Muslim ban last week, and even had some anecdotal evidence ready when she sat down with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews last week.

“Two Iraqis came here to this country, were radicalized, and they were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green massacre,” the White House aide insisted, adding, “Most people don’t know that because it didn’t get covered.”

Even for Conway, it was a bizarre thing to say – because there was no Bowling Green massacre.

A controversy soon followed, and the presidential counselor said she misspoke, using the word “massacre” when she intended to say “terrorists.” Conway has also complained repeatedly that the White House’s critics, whom she’s labeled “haters,” are being unfair to her, pouncing needlessly on an innocent mistake.

There are a couple of problems with the defense. The first is that it doesn’t make much sense: read the quote again and substitute “terrorists” for “massacre.” Conway meant to say the Iraqis “were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green terrorists” and “it” didn’t get covered? That’s very hard to believe.

The second problem is that Conway referenced the exact same “massacre” a few days prior.
Kellyanne Conway took to Twitter on Friday to walk back her comments on MSNBC’s Hardball about a nonexistent terrorist attack in Bowling Green, Kentucky. However, this wasn’t the first time she used the words “Bowling Green massacre” in an on-the-record conversation with a reporter.

In an earlier interview with Cosmopolitan.com, she not only used this same phrase but also went a step further in describing the actions of the two Iraqi men involved in the case to which she was referring.
Conway spoke to MSNBC on Thursday, but earlier in the week, she did an interview with Cosmopolitan.com in which she also referenced the “Bowling Green massacre.”

The White House aide was actually quite specific about the incident that never happened, pointing to details with no basis in reality: “[T]wo Iraqi nationals came to this country, joined ISIS, traveled back to the Middle East to get trained and refine their terrorism skills, and come back here, and were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green massacre of taking innocent soldiers’ lives away.”

Again, in reality, there was no such massacre. The Iraqis in Bowling Green were caught trying to send weapons to terrorists in Iraq – they were busted in a federal sting operation – and they’re both behind bars now.

But the idea that Conway twice accidentally referred to a “massacre” that didn’t happen is literally unbelievable. At this point, she’s developed a reputation for brazen falsehoods that the Republican pollster may never be able to escape.

Update: Here’s another example of Conway repeating the same claim, this time referring to the “Bowling Green attack on our brave soldiers.” There was no such attack, and the repetition of the claim reinforces the idea that she didn’t “misspeak.”

where is the media outrage about fake news...

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/2/21/1636413/-Tucker-Carlson-Of-FAKE-Fox-News-Debates-An-Actor-He-Hired-To-Portray-Anti-Trump-Organizer

Tucker Carlson Of FAKE Fox News Debates An Actor He Hired To Portray Anti-Trump Organizer

Quote:
Monday night's episode of Fox News' Tucker Carlson Tonight scheduled a discussion about the "Not My Presidents" Day demonstrations being held across the country. These events were an extension of the virtually non-stop demonstrations taking place since the election. They are attended by tens of thousands of Americans protesting Donald Trump's extremist right-wing agenda.

There was just one problem. Carlson tried to book an organizer of the demonstrations, but all of them refused to go on his show. That's a wise decision considering his reputation for ambushing and insulting his guests. So how did Carlson respond after being rejected by the protests' organizers? He booked an actor to portray an organizer and proceeded to debate him. Talk about fake news. The Daily Beast reported this comical perversion of journalism:

"Fox News' Tucker Carlson had a hard time booking Olga Lexell, the creator and co-organizer of the nationwide Not My President's Day protests on Monday. So, after repeated refusals, Carlson’s show instead booked Shane Saunders, a Los Angeles-based actor and casting agent, who Lexell said 'was not affiliated in any way with our rallies and was not an organizer.'" [...]

"For a man who knows nothing about the protests to go on TV unprepared, misrepresent our message, take credit for our weeks of hard work, and make us look bad - and for Tucker Carlson's team to go along with it - is just disappointing."

That's putting it mildly. The whole segment was a farce, beginning with the false graphic describing Saunders as the "protest organizer." Carlson began the segment by heralding the "virtuous" celebrations of Presidents Day. However, he immediately segued to the protests, implying that they were not virtuous, and asserting that they have no point. Saunders made an attempt to brush back Carlson's premise with a listing of the achievements made by protesting. He concluded by noting that the protests were "getting to Trump" and that they have him "frazzled."

lets see if this gets into the right wing media like the lady that was removed.

My gosh this guy looks like a right winger..

Bigot kicked off Texas flight for being a racist asshat

Quote:
A man and his (likely) daughter were kicked off of a flight going to Houston, Texas from Chicago. As the passengers were boarding, a Pakistani couple dressed in “traditional cultural attire” was asked by the man if they had a bomb in their bag.

The remark caused a woman sitting next to him to leave her seat and speak with a flight attendant. Other passengers also told flight attendants they were uncomfortable by the remarks.

[...]

"The person ahead us turned around and asked where my boyfriend was from; my boyfriend said it's none of your business," she said. "At that point he said all illegals and all foreigners and need to leave the country."
The woman who recorded this brainiac was with her boyfriend also got targeted by his racial remarks for being Indian descent. You can watch the man and his (probably) daughter getting kicked off the plane below.

The fact of the matter is that when you have someone following the President’s bigot-line so closely they are potentially dangerous. Considering that virtually every single thing that President Trump has said has been a projection of his own misdeeds, listening to someone accusing you of having a bomb on a plane might rightfully lead you to wonder if they themselves had an actual bomb.

why isn't the media swamping the airwaves with this..... this is a major defeat for the right wing claiming there is some sort of mandated for their hate. again if I owned the media as a liberal this would be front page and repeated day in day after saying trumps hate has no mandate.

first showing .. trumps legacy of exclusion not a president for america from his first ultra hate positions were. again he did not win the majority. He lied saying his numbers were record setting. Obama had more and Obama always tried to join the country. Trump has shown he hates the majority of americans.

So we have our first trump hate effect election in Delaware. yep the person ran on how despicable Trump and the right wing are and she won..... this was no small election it was for control of that state. Before it was a 2 point win this time it was a major defeat. Needless to say this is not pointed out all over the media.

so the right wing flooded it with money and hit men.

Buoyed By Anti-Trump Activism, Democrat Wins Delaware Special Election
An army of volunteers, many from out of state, flooded the state Senate district for Stephanie Hansen.

Quote:
MIDDLETOWN, Del. ― This is what democracy looks like.

It’s been a chant that has animated marches and protests around the country since the day after Donald Trump was inaugurated president, but it’s been more aspirational than descriptive. On Saturday, in a state Senate district in Delaware that stretches from Middletown to Newark, the voices in the streets turned into votes in the ballot box.

In the most expensive special election in Delaware history ― a contest to decide which party controls the state Senate ― Democrat Stephanie Hansen was on track to annihilate her Republican rival on the back of extraordinary turnout.

The last time her opponent, John Marino, ran in this district, in 2014, he lost by just 2 points. Hansen’s 58-42 percent victory over Marino on Saturday ensured that Democrats will maintain control of the state Senate. It also notched a big Donald Trump-era win for a new generation of Democratic activists shocked into action by the November election.

“We turned back that win from Washington and made sure it won’t hit Delaware,” Hansen said in her victory speech Saturday night.

Proof # 135:

The stock market is one of the primary indicators of public faith in and opinion of ongoing news. Yet the NYT didn't even MENTION that the market has hit new all-time highs for eleven days in a row since Trump announced his tax cut details.

And, of course, the FBI told the White House “I want you to know [NYT Russia reports] story in NYT is BS,” [FBI] McCabe told [Chief of Staff] Priebus.
