I've never been that fond of redeck. I've used Acrylic clear spray paint
for polyester boards (you could also roll on a clear paint), or clear
spray on epoxy paint (which as Steve writes, can yellow). First you need
to mask off the deck, where you don't want non-skid. Then, a couple of
coats of paint to get it thick (and wet), then a liberal dousing of salt
(there's a technique to getting it right, so I'd practice first), then 1
more coat of paint, then let dry, maybe a light sanding to expose the
salt, if you sprayed a thick top coat, then you have to rinse the salt out
of the deck (with a garden hose). The salt isn't the non-slip, it's the
sharp edges of the paint left after the salt is washed away. I've
also sprayed in a washed sand deck, which doesn't wash out and
isn't quite as pretty, but lasts forever, and is very abrasive. You
wouldn't want to use sand on a white board, it would not look very
good, but they do make an acrylic dust for spray in non-skid, that's
quite pretty on white boards. Also, I don't recommend washing the
salt out over your grass. The grass doesn't like it much.

I applied the salt post application too. Apparently where i went wrong was not applying the salt quick enough. I applied redeck to the board went and grabbed my salt but it was already too dry and the salt did not seem to stick.
Delta windsurf recommended that it should be a two person job. One person roll and the other sprinkle the salt right after. I have a feeling if i had of done it this way it would have come out better.
Delta also mentioned that for $100 their board repair guy can put a factory non stick back on your board. Which apparently comes out much better than redeck
Currently trying the wax option which improved the situation. However, it is getting dirty. |

KevinDo - If I were you, I'd try what WATUPWITU suggested. It's called Monster Traction Paint. NSI has it. Lots of places do... I bought mine from Murray's Marine. You just spray it on like spray paint. First, tape off where you don't want it... then spray it on. I left the footstraps on, and just wrapped 'em in masking tape. No epoxy mixing, no salt, no rollers, etc. It's totally clear... doesn't yellow. One spray-can will do 3 shortboards and costs about $22. I know Re-dek's been around forever, but I never used it. This Monster Clear Traction Spray Paint has been around for a while... I don't know why there aren't more people talking about it. Even though I wear booties, my old production boards were getting way too slippery. In the last few months, I've now added this easy anti-skid to three shortboards and two longboards... I'm not a good DIY guy, like you. Anyway, it's everything the website said... so, I'm a believer

Anyone have any more input on re-deck? I have a board that im currently waxing but am planning on repainting over the winter, since I plan on doing a nice paint job I want a matching grip job. The guy at the board store told me that re-deck is basically the same as the decks on new boards and will look and feel the same. Im skeptical.... Anyone agree/disagree with him? If this isnt true what options are there for a factory style grip job? |

I've never had ReDek look anywhere nearly as neat and uniform as a professional deck job. Maybe with much practice ??? |

ReDEK has been ok for me, they supply a small roller, that will leave lines,
you I'm sure could brush with a cheap ass BRUSH throw away unit and get rid of that, easy and what I would call cheap to accomplish with almost no talent.
any number of places will supply this:: West Marine among them, order if they don't have in stock and avoid shipping charges
its called GOOP anti skid epoxy with grit, it comes in a spray can , and works a treat, is cheap, is dead easy to spray, just mask off what you don't need covered.

this was a brand new board that I removed the shitty factory stickers and then used the GOOP on to provide anti skid.
