Will he do it, folks?

I bet he will and claim that he didn't even as he disparages it.

Nothing like big government to solve our problems! Central planning and high taxes have worked well in Russia, China, Cuba and Venezuela. Certainly the great free dental care in England is to die for. And the Canadians who come down here for the best medical care are out of their minds.

European socialism and high taxes are the envy of the free world. Free health care in Portugal, Italy, an Spain have worked wonders for their people.

I know for a fact that the doctors are looking forward to servicing 33% more patient, while earning the same money as they do today. I'm looking forward to post office quality medical care in the future.

For all you naysayers, if you don't like medicare then drop out and buy your own insurance. For those of you who think that you have health insurance now and when you retire as part of your retirement, you will find that when you turn 65 they will make you join medicare or drop out and buy your own insurance. I would guess that you and your wife could get comparable plans for maybe 20,000 a year once you factor in secondary insurance, dental, vision and drugs. Then fight all the hassle about pre existing, authorizing and the reasons why they won't pay and the constant rise in premiums. So like I said, drop out and find your own insurance or if you are like Brucie and rich, then just pay out of pocket for health care. I got medicare a few years ago and it has worked great for me. For my doctor friends, yeah, they work harder to make their 100,000 a year but it is a volume business and they never complain about lack of customers.

Hey so for everyone interested... I am the original thread starter and I just wanted to let you guys know that I finally have a diagnosis and I finally know what is wrong with me (after two of the most horrible months in my life). None of my symptoms were actually windsurfing related. I am posting my full story here to hopefully prevent anybody else going through a similar thing.

As described, it initially started with joint pain in knees, elbows and hands. Eventually I stopped windsurfing altogether to observe what is going on. I lost 3-4 really good months which I am very sad about. But considering how things turned out, this is only a minor thing.

Ok so I went to my primary care doctor, he tested me for Rheumatoid Arthritis and test came back negative. I also never had any swellings so we kind of ruled this one out. My doctor overall was completely useless ("don't worry, tests came back negative, you don't have anything!") but my general health continued to decline and I felt like a really old person. Joint pain was only the beginning. I began to be more and more exhausted, sometimes went to bed at 8pm, had a flu-like, low-fever feeling of an infection. My elbows started crunching and I couldn't even do Yoga anymore.

My doc prescribed an anti-inflammatory commonly used for Arthritis patients which made things a lot worse. I started having ringing in my ears, could only walk down stairs with pain in my knees and I felt overall very sick. I was getting really worried and started thinking that maybe these things are going on only in my mind because of depression or burnout. Things became really bad 3-4 weeks ago. I had night sweats, crazy muscle spasms, insomnia, started to see really bad, lost appetite / weight and having strong headaches. A few nights, I had crazy anxiety attacks out of nowhere. And I used to be a strong and active person, no big problems, neither mentally nor physically. One day, I was so exhausted that I couldn't even get up from my bed to go to the kitchen. The stress from nobody being able to figure out what I have made things worse.

I kept looking and we tried to rule out other things like lyme disease. This is a bacterial infection contracted from a tick bite. I started to think... I remember about a hike where I brushed off a black bug and it left behind a bloody spot. I also remember noticing a little red rash at some point when I showered but I thought it was nothing more than a mosquito bite. Plus, LA is not a high-risk area for ticks and lyme disease. One really bad day, when I was really sick, I went to an Urgent Care Center to get tested for Lyme disease. The doctor there told me she is 100% sure I don't have Lyme and suggested seeing an eye doctor for my vision problems. But for my piece of mind, she will test me anyways. She was completely ridiculous, talking down on me like I was a hypochondriac and didn't take me serious at all.

Test came back negative. Unfortunately, the generic blood tests for Lyme done in local labs are very unreliable and sometimes false negative (meaning it will come back negative but you might still have it). Things got worse and worse and I wasn't able to function anymore.

Finally, I saw another doctor who put me on antibiotics right away based on a clinical diagnosis (meaning based on only the symptoms I was experiencing). He also submitted more blood tests to a special lab in SF which is known for reliable results. He was convinced I have lyme. I am now on week 3 of antibiotics and things are slowly getting better. I am not as exhausted anymore, I can do simple things and overall health is getting better. I am about to find out my blood results next week but considering the fact that antibiotics seem to make a big difference, I am sure that I have lyme. Now there are crazy horror stories online of people being misdiagnosed for years and now having trouble to heal but I am trying to stay positive that, with the help of antibiotics, I will hopefully be able to fight this horrible disease and be back to normal soon. At least we now know what I have. So far, I am making good progress and after all, I might be able to windsurf again. The things I experienced the last couple of weeks are something I wouldn't wish even to my worst enemies. The ignorance and arrogance of some doctors really annoyed me, combined with the fact that tests are unreliable and the fact that lyme seems to be highly underrated by the public / Center for Disease Control. After going through this, I am convinced there are thousands of people misdiagnosed with all sorts of mental issues or fatigue syndromes even though they are just suffering from a tick borne disease. And some doctors are not able to figure it out. It's crazy and it makes me really sad!

I already thought I was going crazy with panic attacks and mental issues. But as it turns out, these are all symptoms of lyme. I was also convinced that my joints will be so bad that I would never be able to windsurf again. But now, I am regaining hope that things will heal and next year I can hang out with you guys at Cabrillo again and have tons of fun!

So, moral of the story... always be your own advocate of health and don't trust doctors. Keep fighting because they sometimes don't know and sometimes they also don't care!

Hoping to be back soon and really looking forward for the 2013 season ! YAY !!!! Smile

Markus
