The "human forecast" has always been a matter of luck, at least for the Cape Cod - Rhode Island area. Depending on the forecaster, it was sometimes accurate, but often quite wrong. In the last year or two, it has gotten worse. I occasionally check it for fun, but at least 3 out of 4 times, the "metereologist" deviates from the computer models in the wrong direction. A typical example is like this:
  • NAM model predicts SW 15 mph with higher gusts for Fogland
  • Daily briefing predicts 10-14 mph
  • Actual wind is 16-18 mph, gusting to 25

That kinda sucks if your fun threshold is 16 and you stay home because of the "daily briefing". You are better off looking at the different computer models, watching the meter readings, and learning typical trends (e.g. "S winds + sun = 3-5 mph over models in Fogland in the afternoon).

Around here, the NAM model is typically the best. But come fall, it will under-predict SW boosts on sunny days, and the GFS is often better. The WRAMS models are usually the least accurate here, but that is not necessarily true everywhere.

I look at the suscription as paying for the sensor readings and I agree with boardsurfr regarding the forecasts although I don't know was NAM is. I look at the NWS (National Weather Service) marine forecast.

I get by with this stuff Wink
Got me out yesterday for a 2 hour planing jaunt all over Buzzard's Bay on 85 cm wide AHD and 7.8 big fat cambered sail. Fun! (160 pounds, your mileage may vary).

Guys,

If you're having problems loading the forecasts please let us know by using the Contact Us link. Sorry if you've had trouble accessing the meteorologist forecasts, but our support team doesn't check the forums daily so it's better to email us.
