Are you ready?! Very Happy
AWT Hatteras Wave Jam is less than 5 weeks away and is slated to be the greatest gathering of top caliber wavesailing talent ever to hit the US east coast! For those planning to attend or come down to watch the action, we need your support!

A key element required to run a safe event is onsite ocean rescue. During past Wave Jams, we had the support of the all volunteer Hatteras Island Rescue Squad; however, due to limited staff and budget at the Squad, they will no longer be supporting events and will only focus on "on call" emergency rescue. Thus, we will need to contract an ocean rescue provider. Fortunately, there is a local group available; however, that do cost $$ and do tap our existing tight thus far budget.

Thus, we are looking to the community for support. If you plan to participate, please register to provide support from that angle, or if you plan to watch or simply can help support the event, please visit the AWT contribution/donations at the AWT site to help us.

Ocean Rescue is important as we want to be safe out there. There will be many amateurs in the water and even the seasoned pros may have something happen which requires rescue. Tropical season Hatteras waters can also be challenging, so on-site rescue support is very important especially for an organized event.

All in all, the AWT Hatteras Wave Jam is going to be awesome this year and we are all very excited to see this venue coming here!

Will Levi Siver be able to hold his reign of AWT wins, given the competition in Hatteras?! We shall see?! Very Happy

Yea, we will definitely be looking for volunteers to help primarily with beach set up/tear down for each given day. We will have a custom built judging trailer for the judges on the beach, along with popup tents and some other things specific to event display.

Note though that we are somewhat limited on the NPS managed beaches for event display (for example, NPS does not allow sponsor flags implanted in the sand), but this is ok since we will be fluid to allow for choices in where we will be depending upon wind direction for a given day.

Additionally, since this year NPS requires permitted vehicles only on the beach, if anyone has a permitted vehicle and has room to haul out either gear or sailors, that will work well for volunteering too!

looking forward to wind and waves that week!!

Bill

Yes, a 7 day permit can be purchased for I believe $50 at the ORV permitting stations, annual permit is $150 though good only until Dec 31, 2012. Stations are located at at Coquina Beach near Oregon Inlet, and the other is next to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. Takes about 10 min to get the permit as you must watch a 7 min video on beach driving.

Stoke is building for AWT

Abide team has been able to get a few sessions in rececnt weeks
Small waves and light winds but good fun.
Now we need a couple of powered chest high or better days to get dialed and remember what shore break is.

At the moment we have 4 riders planing to go for the event
Some of the team is out this year

I have heard our local pro may try to bring the boston gang

What about the rest of the NE and east coast.

Where is the chatter?

What about Jingbritson and his amazing kona?

Bill do you have a pro roster? whos is in?

This is a great event to attend participate and see.
Sam and the organization do a great job.
Sure to be a fun time

Bill can you do it on line in advance?
For the cape cod we can do it on line and watch video online as well
How many time do we need to be told how to drive on the beach?
