The crew here has discussed this issue in great detail, with many working hard to promote keeping windsurfing in the Olympics. To be thorough, several folks here have also voiced the reasoned opinion that Olympic windsurfing does little for the actual sport of windsurfing because generally the Olympic races feature mainly just the pumping of sails because they are often held in winds so light that they are essentially imaginary winds. However, windsurfing's low-wind performance has continued to evolve dramatically and with perhaps a few equipment-rules updates, Olympic windsurfing should almost always be as exciting as any of the other Olympic Sailing disciplines.
A fair conclusion: Windsurfing and kiteboarding should both be Olympic disciplines, and forcing the choice of including just one or the other was an example of a governing body making a wrong move and falling directly and completely upon its face.
For those interested, here is the open letter, sent by the non-profit organization based in Munich, World Of Windsurfing, and sent to the ISAF -- to encourage retaining windsurfing as an Olympic discipline.

And here is the letter than the World Of Windsurfing non-profit group sent to iWindsurf:
Dear media partner,
World of Windsurfing (WOW), a non-profit organisation represented by its members Cobra International, JP-Australia, Neil Pryde, Starboard, Fanatic, North Sails, surf Magazin, surf & action company, Club Mistral and F2 Boards, has sent an Open Letter to all ISAF members yesterday, asking to keep windsurfing an Olympic discipline.
We hope that the Board Members will consider our arguments when taking their final vote at the Annual General Meeting in November. In order to spread the word, we would appreciate your publishing our letter as well.
Thank you very much in advance
best regards
Caroline Opp

Caroline (email included in this thread) says anyone is free to contact her to support the ongoing efforts to keep Windsurfing in the Olympics.
I guess it would be unexpected but interesting if ISAF actually reverses their decision, or modifies it to keep Windsurfing in.
