NW30, looks like you need to straighten up your tin hat a bit. Seems like you're picking up some pretty paranoid signals.
You know, yesterday I think that President Obama put things on the table. He certainly isn't responsible for the passage of the Patriot Act, and I think that it's safe to say that the state of the government's efforts has been sophisticated over time based on the ongoing knowledge and input from the executive, legislative and judicial branches. That's not to say that all folks in government agree about what's being done in the name of national security, to include the limits or the lack of limits involved. The important point that Obama raised and highlighted is that Congress can get together and change things, and he openly encouraged that, but as we all know that means real communication and cooperation between members of the Democratic and Republican parties. In my view, all the partisan hype and finger pointing is a waste of time, and predictably, it accomplishes almost nothing of value.
Trying to pin everything on President Obama and his administration is getting tired and old. All one has to do is look at all the Republican nonsense about the ACA to see how bankrupt they really are. There are no real ideas being developed and worked on. Doesn't that embarrass you? |

You really think that BHO will give an ear to any Republican idea of impovement to the ACA, after it's been sign, sealed, and delivered? Really?
And how about BHO's appointment of Susan Rice, in light of her carring the Benghazi lie to all the major networks?
That was nothing but a big 'fuck you' by BHO to the Republicans.
Nothing embarrassing there is there, naaa.
Our whole country is becoming an embarrassment. Just ask the Brits, they're all pissed off now.

In contrast to what you're saying, David Brooks of the NY Times suggested this week on the PBS News Hour that President Obama's decisions to name Susan Rice and Samantha Power to the positions of National Security Adviser and US Ambassador to the UN respectively were excellent choices. While Brooks may not be Republican enough these days, I've found him to be a well informed pragmatist on both people and the issues. Also, from what I understand, Powers will very likely by approved by a Senate 60 vote majority.
With respect to Rice, I glad that President Obama chose her, especially since it gets under the skin of folks like you that feed on the Benghazi thing. Obama apparently likes her candor and style, and if that helps him in an important area of concern, I'm OK with it. Some say the the National Security Adviser position is arguably more important than either the Secretary of State or Defense positions. If anything, it's central to good communication. Why not give her a chance? |

She was a victim of politics. Her qualifications for the post seem good.
The invented scandals will not stop.
The USA is being Clintoned again, starting before O took office when Limbaugh blamed the recession on Os policies.
During the Clinton witch hunt the GOP Congress set a new record for failing to pass bills or do their jobs. That record has been broken several times since then by the do nothing Congress. This year they are sure to set a new standard for not working so they have plenty of time to talk about phony O scandals like Reagan cell phones and the Bush Patriot Act. |

All this data mining had zero effect on the recent Boston bombings. I must assume that they weren't Verizon customers..
Even though the Russian Government warned us twice, they posted anti American messages on FB, and they were on the terror watch list in Russia.
THIS WHOLE WAR ON TERROR IS BULLSHIT. WE SH0ULD END THE WAR TODAY, FIND OUT WHO IS IN AMERICAN, AND LET THE MIDDLE EAST FU(K ITSELF. |

How ... PLONK the terrorists, as I do here? Sadly, it doesn't "end" that easily; it merely lets me ignore others' desire to behave like fools. How do we PLONK terrorist attacks?
Oops ... dumb question. Obama answered that by declaring it "workplace violence" at Fort Hood. Let's see how effective that is when they manage to disperse ricin over a Superbowl. |

Bard, you are very perceptive! The whole war on terror is bullshit! It's all about taking away OUR FREEDOM! It started with Bush, and Obama is NO DIFFERENT! We are no longer a free country.
The "War on Terror" is all about terrorizing America |

Bard--amidst your paranoia you sometimes make sense:
Quote: | THIS WHOLE WAR ON TERROR IS BULLSHIT. WE SH0ULD END THE WAR TODAY, FIND OUT WHO IS IN AMERICAN, AND LET THE MIDDLE EAST FU(K ITSELF |
But of course, the underlying reason for endless war is oil security. If people say that they will try to attack you if they occupy their country--they may be telling you the truth. But the oil industry--and the carbon fuel industry that fuels most of our economy, won't let that--or alternatives--happen. Security for gasoline costs about 75 cents a gallon.
But NW--your tin hat or your tin foil needs adjustment. If I follow your line of reasoning, it was OK when J. Edgar Hoover engaged in warrantless wiretapping. It was OK when Reagan did the same--armed the Contras, and lied to Congress about it. It was perfectly OK when George Bush engaged in wireless surveillance on a massive scale, and got his pee pee slapped by the Supreme Court. But it is not ok when Obama uses the powers that Congress so rashly gave all presidents.
Bush built a massive and inefficient bureaucracy in the TSA, largely because the existing agencies were jealous of each other and wouldn't share information. The bureaucrats in that organization always ask for more resources because there is always new technology, and because that's the way you get a promotion. I agree that it should be pared back and made more transparent, and there should be some level of protection for both leakers and reporters if the information leaked shows law-breaking. Obama has been terrible on this front--although I agree on the leaking of Al Queda in the Arabian Peninsula front.
And mrgybe, when his hypocrisy (or his multiple errors and untruths) is pointed out makes a snarky comment and doesn't respond substantively. Here's a letter mrgybe should write to Dear Amy:
Dear Amy--some obnoxious people make fun of me when I post snappy rude comments. How can I make them stop?
Hmm, I'll have to get back to you on that one. |
