I just returned from an extended windsurfing trip. Here's the
"trip report", spread over this and the next two posts. Forgive
the length, especially the third part.
First, many thanks to the wife and son for letting me go for a
full month; they stayed with me for the first week on Maui, but
it was more than generous for them to grant me another 3 weeks.
I sailed 28 of 29 days, sessions ranging from 90 minutes to
nearly 5 hours. The one missed day in the middle was a travel day
from Maui to San Diego to get the plane to San Carlos. After a
nearly windless year in New England, being able to sail every day
might sound pretty awesome, but after three weeks, when your
hands are aching with callouses, the cuts in your feet just won't
heal and you're almost out of gas, it's a real test of stamina and
self-discipline to get out and sail another 3 hour session. |
