Tough call to figure out the actual float. Even the board companies are often wrong, since they "measure" the plug, but not the actual finished product. Only a water tank test can tell. Cheap water tank is a swimming pool from Cosco or Target, Wal or K mart.
Remember your weight, plus the weight of your wet wetsuit and whatever else you're wearing.
I have about 25 boards around, rotate thru them all each 2 months, so have a pretty good idea what can float my 150 lbs. At my app 70 kilos (with full wetsuit, booties, harness, trunks, cap), I need another 15 to uphaul first and every time. 80 is possible, but only in flat water and multiple tries. I can stand on a 75 liter board, pull up the sail, and fall over every time. I"m sure a younger, better balanced sailor of my weight can uphaul 75 liters, but I can't. |
