what makes it better?
I am also taking my kid along on weekends and he is just learning. So currnently it is easy for him to play in the Hook while I am on the other side by Wells Island. He is working on handling larger sails to get on a plane.
Am interested in knowing what makes Rowena or Mosier better though, always thought the "good" sailors went there and I prefer to stay out of traffic. |

Guys...
I DO know, working at a Mistral, F2, and Bic dealership those years.
E Rock is 60 cm wide, thick on the rails, 8'9", 109 liters.
F2 Ride277 was a true 99 liters. Given to me directly from KenWinner and my experience. I'd ridden all those boards those days. Notice the F2 rails are MUCH thinner.
No speculation from me, I rode all those boards, talked to Gnigler. |

zirtaeb, like I said, you could be correct. I was just saying that "Bic never said that". If Ken Winner tested it and came up with that vol, fine... I'm just saying that the specs you're quoting, didn't come from the factory.
It doesn't even matter... just trying to give some helpful advice to RocRobster here
But since you're talking about it... I just went to Bic's site, and they have specs from boards before 2000.

Here's the specs according to Bic: length width weight volume and model year's built. I had just about every year from '89 on... to the '94 that I still have.
ELECTRIC ROCK 2,65 m 0,58 m 8 kg 102 l 88/95
The shape and vol. and dimensions never changed. But graphics and straps and finboxes and anti-skid, etc. did change.

If you believe in the old specs, good for you.
Everyone knew by the tradeshow, 1989, that the BicERock was well over the volume of the Screamer103. And that Screamer was much floatier than the Ride277.
Sorry you were left in the dark, and still believe things you read. My friend ZackBeekler, on Bic's official race team, picked out the lighter purple ones, moved the straps back, and competed against the fastest guys on Mike'Slabs with that old veneralbe Bic.
If you still believe everything you read, you might as well stay home and stay safe. |

Most people do not have a problem getting back to the beach at Bobs. Just make sure you have a big enough board to float you if the wind dies. Never even considered that a problem.
As to easterlies in Stevenson, you need to go down to the boat ramp (east). That way if you do have problems you will end up at Bob's. But seriously unless the current is just insane on an easterly, I never see people having problems getting back. Unless of course you are a gorge only sailor and never learned to sail upwind ALSO if you are falling in the water on all your jibes, then you go get carried by the current, but not so much sailing. Just keep an "eye" on the wind. Easterlies tend to fade in the early afternoon. So if it starts feeling "up and down" get your butt in to the shore unless you really know what you are doing.
Rowena has bigger swell, and is a good step up from Stevenson. Mosier is about the same, BUT with a very narrow launch/beach area. I would think about Viento. It's similar to Stevenson's in characteristics. The only downside is that there isn't a gauge there so it is hit and miss unless you are camping there. BUT if you do try it, if the wind is blowing straight down the river that is good. If it has a northerly cant to it and seems to be coming from Washington, don't sail there.... |

Anyway... it doesn't really matter... a couple of liters here or there
All that matters is how they all sail. I was just supporting RocRobster in what F2 printed on the 277 for vol. If f2 printed the wrong thing, fine. It all just gives the person an indication, as long as it's pretty close. I guess that's all we can expect.

Ya a Screamer. That's what I'd do is get a Screamer. If you can't do it on one of those, better give it up.
If your heels are in the water a rear footstrap in the middle would be better for you. |

got the 115l 2007, will come in handy for both my son and I when we are able to both sail at the same time... and my wife will buy that justification. Thanks johnl for finding that great deal for me!

Good board. Pops up on a plane very quick, the only negative is that it has a flat rocker (which is why its an early planer) it wants to spear waves. but knowing this, picking your path and putting weight on the back foot if you are going to spear a wave mitigates its downside. just don't take it to the hatch on a 4.2 day. |

thanks. wouldn't sail it in 4.2 (have a 85l wave board if I can get to that skill level. And I have never sailed at the hatchery (and likely won't) |
