That's a good article. I once helped rescue someone who was in "Aquatic Distress". If he had been drowning I don't think I would have even seen him.

TV / movies have in general done a disservice to the public in the name of dramatic impact. Almost nothing is like you see it in the movies:
A. Drowning people don't scream for help and flail about. Don't believe it? Try breathing in a pint of water and then scream for help or try and swim.
B. If your heart stops, even if you get immediate CPR or defib., chances are your either still gonna die or have massive brain damage.
C. Unlike fights in the movies, if you get punched really hard in the face....just one solid hit....you're done.
D. Despite what happens on CSI, DNA analysis takes weeks or even months to get the results back.
The list goes on and on.... _________________ Kansas City |

We should also keep in mind that when we have kids at the lake, river, or ocean, they really need to wear floatation at all times. Get em a vest that doesn't look stupid if they complain about a pfd. They could be knee deep and everything is fine one second, one step to the left, fall in a hole/channel/rip current....gone forever. _________________ Kansas City |
