I went to Maryhill yesterday with the family hoping to get a good sail in, but gave up waiting for the wind about 4:30 PM and went to Dougs for a late day session.

Does the wind direction need to be exact for Maryhill to work? What is that magic direction and how do I know when to drive the extra miles?

Maryhill = the Wall and Rufus . . . I never thought of that corridor as a morning spot at all. Totally afternoon and evening.

Yesterday was weird though, and there was no parking at Roosevelt because there was no wind at Maryhill/Wall/Rufus.

So I didn't answer your question though - why was it nuking at Dougs and Roosevelt but not at the Wall (just like last Sunday, right)?

Is it a wind direction thing?

It was VERY windy at Maryhill to Rufus corridor on Sunday.
the problem was the wind was out of the North and that does not work for that stretch of the river.
if the wind is north of 275 degrees, forget about sailing here..... it needs to be sw or due west (270 degrees).
It can blow anytime of the year (spring, summer, fall), morning or afternoon.
Typically, this time of year the wind is boosted by the desert heat - so the afternoons and early evenings are best.
But it's the gorge and the weather does not always follow the rules.

I was very windy at Maryhill, just not on the water and there was certainly a lot of north in the wind. However if you look at the Maryhill wind from yesterday, it ranged from W to SW (which it probably was on the water). So where do you get a good forcast for the wind direction off the water?

Thanks Idhr for the info on the wind direction at the Wall{Maryhill}! It's got such a nice swell there, like a micro ocean, when it's blowing S.W. or due west...!
