Was sailing at lake mohave couple weeks ago and broke a carbon extension about a mile or more out. Bobby the kiter came by and sat on my board and towed us both in with his kite. THANKS AGAIN BOBBY u saved me a long swim.

Was that extension old or something? I've used those for a long time, but I recently bought a Streamlined aluminum extension. My old Chinook carbon was showing some sagging in the holes for the retention pin. I've always wondered about the relative strength of the two materials. I use skinny.

WOW, that's a tough failure to deal with. Hope I never have an extension fail!

Glad you made it back, especially with a kiter's help.

Are you sure it was "streamline"?

I don't think they make a carbon extension, only THICK aluminum that should never break.

Was the kiter able to tow the rig as well?

Let us know. Pictures are worth many words.

SL makes a RDM carbon for the Euro-pin.

I would like to know where it broke too.

Glad you made it back ok!

That definatly sounds defective to me. I would take it back and get an aluminum replacement. I haven't heard of many aluminum RDM extensions breaking.

Years ago Juan at PA had a 25cm carbon skinny extension that bent about 30 degrees right above the extension stop, but didn't fail. It was either at the highest setting or just a notch down. I seem to recall it had 3 maybe 3.5 inches in the mast. I always make sure to insert at least 5 inches of the extension in the mast. Even if it means not downhauling the sail to the fullest.

The new Ezzy Cheeta 6.5 rigs on a 430 mast, but it requires 28 cm of extension...gets my attention whenever I rig it!
