On the note about wasting Coast Guard Resources;
I did have one Coast Guard Rescue via Radio, and what they told me at the time was that when you feel threatened do not hesitate to call the Coast Guard, and let the Coast Guard make the call on whether you need rescue or not.

I think Chophop's decision to call in the Coast Guard given the circumstances was appropriate. When the currents grab you, they can really drag you out super fast.

Note to self, the Rip current does not end at the channel, grab the radio when on the coast.

I like the Micom M72 too, I have had it for 4 years, and saved me once.
