They might have banned shooting in the '70's, but the members are still fisherman and trap shooters.
Just like at LakeMerced.
Why change a name because one guy doesn't like it? I like the name, and it's a location theme. |

Abhorrent is just a word, but the issue is real: more than 100,000 people are shot in the USA every year, and more than 30,000 die because of gun wounds.
In respect to this kind of slaughter the name of a windsurfing spot is a triviality, but I would also like not to see references to guns or violence: time to have a little opinion pool on possible alternative names?

Now that I think of it, I think shooting was still allowed there up to the early '80's. I remember sailing Larkspur with Kenny and Heinrich Hartz, and some stories about the other side being a possible great spot except for the trap shooting.
Anyone know for sure? It was my first fall of windsurfing, 3 weeks in, and I sure as heck wouldn't plan to be the pioneer.
I'd already sailed Oyster Pt., Ocean Beach, and of course, Crissy |
