Just issued for Central & Eastern Kansas. South winds gusting to 50 mph, plus its nice and warm (high of 90°F today) and the water has warmed to upper 70°'s. Very Happy

A large part of the mid-west will get this wind today and Thursday as it moves east.

I remember back in the late 80's reading in Wind Ryder (which became WindSurfing) about several lakes in Kansas that really go off when the fronts come through. I seem to recall that the article also indicated that there was a really strong group of sailors there as well and one or two guys that were making custom boards for the the locals. Glad to hear the wind is still howling and the water is warm. Enjoy!

It was a good day; not as windy as forecast, but I was fully powered (ocaisionally overpowered) on a 4.7 and 77 l. wave board. Completely comfortable in just shorts/rashguard. More wind forecast for Sat.& Sun. Very Happy

rswab: I think you're refering to John Doyle, who moved to the Gorge in the early 90's. He makes those hollow boards out of divynacel. I used to make boards too, but just a couple, just for fun.
There are 5 decent sized (1-2 mile reach) lakes within an hour of KC, and there are some really great lakes further west. Wilson lake near Russell, KS is epic. Clear water, tons of wind, and huge swell. You can camp right next to the water. There's a Yahoo group: http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/kansaswindsurf/

Join and then post to the message board if you're coming through the area, we'll tell you where everyone is sailing.
