Hello,

For my school Project I’m looking for interesting facts about kitesurfing.
What are the most important events and facts in kiteboardhistory ???
I would really appreciate if you would help me to find the milestones events in kitesurf history.
Once I have an interesting number I will create a small post resuming the most outstandingpoints with some pics and videos. I’m sure all kitesurf freaks will love it.
It’s really hard to find information in the web even Wikipedia does not really have actual information.

Example events are:
- Bruno Legaignoux and Dominique Legaignoux, patented an inflatable kite design in November 1984,
- 24 Mar 2012 Robert Douglas reached 49.84 knots (92.30 km/h) and gets the world record in speed sailing, competing against windsurf, trimaran and other wind driven vehicles.
- Kirsty Jones set the long distance record for a kitesurfing journey when she travelled 225 km (140 mi). She crossed solo from Lanzarote(Canary Islands) to Tarfaya, Morocco, in about nine hours on 13 May 2006

Facts that I would like to know
- Which is the biggest wave that has been wave kited?
- How many handle passes are the maximum that have been made.
- How many kites are sold in a year

Please always give me the source as I have to mention it in my presentation about kiteboarding. I will also put the results in my kitesurfing blog that I just started.
Thank you so much.
Keep in touch
Best
Vinz

No. 2 ~ You may not get much 'supportive info' about this subject on this side of the forum.
Their lines are 90 to 100' long so they require a large amount of space for kiting safely w/o interfearing with anyone else. Hense the friction between the kiters and the windsurfers,,,, both on the water, and on the beach.
But I will admit that it has been getting a bit better as they have been being a bit more sensitive to our space,,,,,,,,,,,,,, somewhat.
Generally they are younger, and more filled with vim and vigor, and dieing to show their stuff. One reason is that it is a lot easier to learn how to do that than windsurfing, so us old farts don't really like it when the "radical upstarts" get in the way of us that have payed our dues thru years of trial and tribulation.
It may sound a bit bitter, but I'm getting used to it, I have to, they aren't going anywhere.

Kiting Fun Fact #1Kiting requires 45 minuets of talking with other kiters on the beach for every 15 minuets of sailing.

Kiting Fun Fact #2The reason why kiters wear their trunks over their wetsuit is a very closely held secret very much like a "secret handshake".

Kiting Fun Fact # 3 90% of all kiters will give up the sport as soon as something easier comes along.

Most important fact:
Kiting has really taken off recently after another dying sport was officially canceled.

Kiting Fun Fact #16: The #1 kiting sponsor is Lipton's tea. The resemblance is very similar.

I sold all my kite gear and bought more sails. Smile In the last 6 moths I've spent 10 times more on the water sailing than I ever did with the kites in 3 years. PITA to find a spot to launch around here and even more so to do it safely while still learning. I'll have to admit though it's much less of a hassle to rig/derig the kite and all the gear fit into my two seater drop top. (S2000) Pretty much the only reason I got into that sport before I got a Jeep. Still have the S2k but wish I could drive it for a sailing session. Sad

Well, since it was "official" that makes us all rogue outlaw windsurfers.
I think I can live with that.

Maybe you can impress us with photos of all your stuff too. I have to say though, I'm surprised that you haven't included your vast collection of boardshorts in the listing, especially given their importance in the sport.
