I know this design has been around for awhile now, does anyone have actual experience sailing it? How does it perform with larger (by windsurfing standards) riders, say 200lbs? This would not be a first board but for that next step, straps and harness etc. I realize this is not exactly a sexy board but it's relatively light for its size, 11.5 kg, which is far lighter than many boards in it's class, and reasonably priced.

Windsurfs really well in flatter waters, not voodoo chop.
Lots of smaller guys used it also for SUP. I assume that's the 135 version, which I've (at 150lbs.) SUP'ed. Some friends like the 125 version, and the bigger one came sometimes with a centerboard.
All very good boards for normal windsurfing with sails from 6-8 meters.
Easy jibe learner, super durable, a little hard to transport due to length.
Most here would say a modern 135 board is 73cm wide, so 4" wider than that Bic. Unless you are bad at balancing, I don't think it matters much....just a staqe to make thru.

It's pretty much the same board as the Bic Techno One-Design, which I've sailed. It has 205 liters and 79 cm width, so it should be totally secure for you even at 200 lbs.

You're right that it's not fancy, but it will go fast when you step on the gas, and the daggerboard means you can get back upwind easily if you end up downwind. If your objective is to learn basic "high wind" skills like planing, footstraps, and harness, and jibes, but you still want to be able to get out on the water in light wind conditions, and you don't want to spend too much, then I think it's a good choice.

If you're going to use it with a sail bigger than 7.5 you'll probably want to upgrade to a bigger fin, maybe 50 cm. Otherwise it will be hard to stay upwind without the daggerboard.

I had the one design version and sailed for a couple years. I learned how to plane and get in the straps with it. It was the only board I had at the time and worked great Im about 190 pounds. I enjoy sailing my smaller boards now but it was a good board for me at the time. I had a 46cm select free ride fin for it that worked great with sails up to an 8.5. I hope they put a powerbox on that thing by now.

The BIC OD is now called the BID OD 293 DTT as in Deep Tuttle... This is a good enhancement over the TrimBox fin. I think the Core was already DTT.

I don't think the Core or the OD will have great glide in sub-planing mode at you weight though.

I've got a Bic Techno 293D Classic, I'm 175lbs, use an 8.5 race sail... the stock fin was 36cm.... I purchased a 54 cm race fin which added a notable improvement in acceleration and ease of planing, and improved upwind performance.

it is still quite the tugboat in winds less than 8 kts... but my GPS read 7 mph as I achieved planing... wind must have been about 10 at the time.

I attain 20-25 mph in winds of 15-25 regularly with the big fin. Upper 20mph's though, the fin makes the board trim/bank/yaw a little sensitive/quirky...

I figure Formula boards use 70 cm fins....
