I just bought a pristine red S2 at the swap. But there is no indication of volume or length on it. Any ideas? Is it a "wave" or other model? Pretty sure it is carbon, judging by the weight and stiffness (I sailed it after the swap, and my bones ache like hell today; Rowena chop...). Isobars? Thanks.

Measure it's length for sizing.
Look up the tail bottom to see if it's a wave or a Style bump n jump

Red lettering = Style; blue = wave.
Also, sizes S, M, and L => Style; length (e.g. 8'4") => wave.

You scored a 2001 87L Style @ 13.5#, 4.5-6.5 sail range. Here's WSMag's evaluation of it (I've come to trust, or at least interpret, their test results pretty consistently) with my comments in brackets (I owned one briefly):

Fast to plane, fast on all points of sail. [The Wave is fast because it's so smooth you can ignore chop; the Style is simply fast. I also considered it pretty smooth, but I was not at Rowena.) Tracks well at any jibing radius, makes voodoo chop actually inviting. Ride remains smooth and controlled when powered. [Try playing with the mast foot location; that can make quite a bit of difference in ride quality on some boards. You also had gusts to 40 Sunday ... a bit much for 87L even given the much lower averages.] Exceptional speed and light weight = "Did you see that ?" airtime [WSMag got a bit corny at times]. Slashing swells and even small waves in onshore conditions [e.g., The River) is applicable, but its true calling is B&J. [It will slash rights and lefts quite well with heel'n'toe steering in the back strap.] The Style's great combination of speed, stability, and turning prowess make any freerider smile as it glides through chop and carves jibes in a league of its own.

Even the most hardened sailors smiled at this board's effortless speed; just hop on and go. It gets even better with time, with jumps and great jibing ability keeping testers out for long sessions.
---------------
I bought mine simply to see how it compared to my MP Waves. The differences are primarily in speed, planing, maneuverability, and ride. The Style is a bit faster and earlier planing, less loose, and a bit tauter in ride. Since loose is my game, I returned it to the CGWA. (Yours definitely is not the one I owned; I paid $5 for mine, sawed off its gross nose damage, and slapped glass over the stump just to test it.)

Thank you Isobars for the valuable details. Indeed, it was surprisingly fast and also turned very well and fairly tightly. I was on a small 4.2 (I hate schlogging and drowning in cold water) and admit I could have been on 3.7. I'm hoping for a big smooth day to try some gigantic jibes on fat swell, as opposed to the notorious Rowena and Doug's starboard chop I experienced that day.. I still feel the damage in my bones. This was a girlie board that had barely been sailed, all areas of the deck still very gritty.

I LOVE it when I score a board like that, as I did Sunday. It's a spare for one of my top performers in case the latter gets dirty or needs new footstraps (three straps cost more than Sunday's board, which included good straps and a flawless MFC fin).

The first thing I do when I get home from a swap meet is grab my board cleaning kit and go to town to see if I properly evaluated its condition despite the grime most people leave even on boards they're trying to sell. Three dabs of porcelain filler and this one looks show room new.

I think you'll be very impressed in the wind range a board that size is intended for.
