In particular, note this page of w8tn4wind's site:
http://www.prosperity.com/health.aspx

But, of course, that's all bogus because it doesn't agree with the Left's preconceptions and because "based in London, the Legatum Institute (LI) is an independent non-partisan public policy organisation whose research, publications, and programmes advance ideas and policies in support of free and prosperous societies around the world."

I don't think anyone is dissing the quality of health care in America. Sometimes if you spend enough money, you get results. The real question is "can we afford this"? Sort of like our military spending, social security.....

Yup. Looking deeper, the overall index shows the US on a downward slide. Ranked 6th overall in 2008 and now 10th in 2011.
Very interesting site. Thanks for the link.

I prefer not to participate in socialist programs but understand why guys like iso get all they can from these entitlements.
The prosperity index shown in wnds link put us about tenth behind all the most socialist countries in the west.
In the second link Canada and other socialized med countries rank ahead of the us.
Is a socialized western society better to live in than a less socialized one like the states as iso and wnd are showing us with these links? I always thought the contrary.
I suspect iso thought that site said something else but maybe he forgot to read it again.

yes, in the legatum article it did show that they included healthcare spending in the study, which seems to have pushed the health rating artificially higher. but i think that anyone who has spent time in the states realizes it doesnt mean that spending finds its way down to all the people.
so where does all that money go?
but thanks nickb for those links that help point that out.
anyway, yes, i believe in some socialism is necessary in a civilized society, i think it is the responsibility of those that have so much to help take care of those that may not be born to privilege.
and yes there's always the bitchin' about universal healthcare here in Canada too,and no, its not perfect, but i'd much rather have the system we have, than the 'American style' healthcare the right are constantly trying to copy.

Here's a thoughtful study comparing US/Canada health outcomes that appears in Open Medicine, a peer-reviewed, independent, open-access journal:

http://www.openmedicine.ca/article/view/8/1

The conclusion: "Canada’s single-payer system, which relies on not-for-profit delivery, achieves health outcomes that are at least equal to those in the United States at two-thirds the cost."

Here's a report Canadian health outcomes to peer nations by the conference Board of Canada:

http://www.conferenceboard.ca/hcp/details/health.aspx#average

Note that Canada gets a grade of "B"and the US and UK get grade of "D".

Lest you think the Conference Board is some lefty think tank, here's a link to their board of directors:

http://www.conferenceboard.ca/about-cboc/bod.aspx

Here's an AMA Journal Artical on whether US does indeed have best healthcare system:

http://www.lacythompson.net/AMA Journal Article.pdf

I prefer not to make judgments based on partisan think tanks, or anecdotes collected on the banks of the Columbia.
