A Google Satalite fly over, sort of shows a lack of public beach launch sites for the area to the west and east of Seatle. In fact Lake Washinton almost has the feel of lake shore owners only....

Tell me about Puget Sound windsurfing.

Season is from about mid. September to end of April.
Usually storm high wind sailing on southerlies or big/formula cruising on northerlies.

We come to the gorge Smile
Or if you are into big slalom/formula sailing there are some Northerly days to sail around here. Nothing spectacular though.

I've got most board sizes covered. Got back into light air longboarding via my Starboard Serenity and Kona One still enjoy 20-30 on the short stuff. 30 yrs on Lake Erie and 20+yrs spring and fall trips to the OBX.

Ivog, another great link:-) My google Sat. tour also has me looking at Olympia. I lived in Toronto for 18yrs and I'm sort of done with urban spraw.

I also do alot of street and dualsport motorcycling. Met a couple of guys that showed me around on a trip to Hood River a few years ago.

I grew up in Olympia and learned to windsurf there.

Kona and Serenity would be perfect for South Puget Sound in the summer. There are some breezy days for shortboarding here and there, too.

Not such a good place for kiteboarding because of the tall trees, sharp barnacles, gusty winds, cold water, tidal currents, etc.

I had assumed the question addressed the winter. How far's the Gorge in the summer from Seattle ... 3-3.5 hours to the eastern/western Gorge? How far's Nuke Alley ... a couple of hours? Vantage, which blows as hard and often as Swell City in the summer ... 2 hours, if that? Swallow the driving and go for it; the vast majority of our sailing in New Mexico was 150-190 miles away, often on twisty two-laners, and we did it at the drop of a hat for the afternoon any day of the week, often across the continental divide in the winter. Ya get used to it, skunks and all. What's not to like about a few hours on a 4.0 after a hard day at work?

as you ca maybe tell, we have revived our look into moving out west. It all mostly will be tolerence for gray, green and wet vs, need for sunshine and a bit of culture(wifes a city girl from Montreal) Iv'e kept the various pm's from my last threads from 07-08.

I have such a collection of boats, motorcycles and windsurfing gear it rediculous.Problem is, I use it all just wouldn't make sense to cart it all 3000 mi.

So far PDX makes the most sense one hour to HR and solves to the urban need, the kicker will be the need for a good school so that my youngest son can finnish HS and then go on to college.
