|

I've been using a silver Sharpie Metallic Fine Point Marker to mark harness line positions on my boom. Looks something like this:
It works OK, but it wears off more quickly than I'd like. Anybody have suggestions for a longer-lasting option for marking on a black boom grip? |

Hmm, intriguing idea! But doesn't the little nubby on each ziptie get in the way sometimes? Each of my booms spans at least 3 sail sizes, sometimes 4. Seems like the plastic nubs on 3 or 4 zipties per boom side might interfere with hands and/or harnesslines, no? I mean, often I'll make small tweaks to my line positions relative to the marked location, sometimes even while sailing, just by sliding the lines up or down the boom a smidge. Just seems like the zipties would get in the way of these kinds of small adjustments. But clearly it sounds like you're happy using the ziptie approach. So what the heck, for a whole $1, I just might have to give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion! |

Not if you put one tie in the center spot of each boom arm for each sail rather than marking each line mounting point. That's all you need to mark. I.e., 4 sails = 8 marks/ties, not 16. |

It depends on the range I guess, and how far you harness line spread is. You could also try to find some velcro strips and cut little thin strips out to mark your centers, those shouldnt get in the way much |

While not permanent, I just use electric tape and write on it which sail and such |

Cut little notches in the boom grip with a razor blade, just like the notches on your bed post, how hard can it be?
She'll never tell, I promise. |

Put the Sharpie marks in the centers, on the bottom side of the boom for uv shielding. They should last forever there, as that spot is virtually never touched. |

Mark your sails, not your boom. Push the bottom of the perfectly positioned harness line to the sail and put a small dot there. Then each sail carries the rigging information with it. You'll still find yourself making minor adjustments from session to session, but the mark on the sail will last longer than that of the boom. _________________ Michael
