It is true that we in Britain suffer from a 'brain drain' problem. The brightest and best of our well qualified young often desert our over regulated and risk averse shores, especially under the stifling hand of socialist governments, for the freedom and enterprise of America.

It isn't wealth that draws them, but the opportunity to innovate and develop ideas. Perhaps they should now move to China (most of the worlds manufacturing seems to have done so) while we in the West piddle about trying to save the planet!

Hey, be careful, my daughter worked for a hedge fund, and is now an investment banker in SF. She studied economics. Most have law degrees or MBA's.

She is already known as honorable, and straightforward. They are not given enough ethics courses in business school though. I think the 1st thing they should learn in school is public service, morality, compassion, and philosophy. Then how to lead with distinction.

Most of them are just little men with too much power, and should have been squashed in 08. There would have been so much opportunity then. Rolling Eyes

Hey Steve, that quote is also directed at myself. In addition I also qualified as a Chartered Accountant and a CFA. For both of those qualifications, and especially for the CFA, if you failed the ethics section you failed overall regardless of how well you did on everything else. The CFA Institute takes ethics very seriously, and not only strips offenders of the designation but names names when someone crosses the line.

this explains a lot: my daughter worked for a hedge fund.

You must be proud. So many jobs are created by betting against elements of the American economy!

Mac, that would be like saying your insurance agent should be ashamed of himself, for insuring your home. For a smart guy, you've got a very biased perspective.

A corn farmer plants corn with his life savings every year. He hedges this investment with a short to insure a minimum rate of return, and the survival of his familes farm. (or he sells his crop into the future as a hedge)

Although I agree that Soros might be the most evil man alive. Evil or Very Mad

Why? He's simply an avowed communist or socialist or Marxist who's put his money and power where his mouth is .... just like Obama except that Soros does it in secret (OK, like O does when necessary). I'm willing to assume that neither is trying to harm others for personal benefit, rather, their harm is a side effect, not a goal.

But Madoff? He should be executed, IMO.

Nah. Cheney, Wolfowitz, Bolton, Rumsfeld are all top candidates for the "Worst Person in the World" award. They (and not dubya) took us to war to satisfy their private agendas.

From stevenbard: "you've got a very biased perspective."

You have a future in comedy.

Not before we rid the world of Cheney, Wolfowitz, Bolton, Rumsfeld, Rove, and a few other blood-sucking neo-cons. Hell, we should include the entire Cheney family and all who look like them.

I've heard that the fashionable young women during the French Revolution wore thin red ribbons around their neck to simulate the effects of the guillotine.
