Hi, I sometimes sail in shallow water with weeds and I was looking for a good condition recent used HiFly MADD in the 138 or maybe 115 range. Have heard good things about these boards but don't seem to be sold in US any more (?). I think they're made in Germany. I do know RRD makes a 135 Twin FireRide that is supposed to be excellent freerider also.

What are your comments on these boards?

thanks Keith :)

the RRD comes in 115 & 135L, dollar wise its a apples to oranges comparison to the Madd.

I rode briefly a 115L Madd twin this year, I was very impressed with it.

It had a set of GSport weed fins. Chinook used to be the importer in Hood River, but I think they are not sold anywhere now, the web site is active but last entry 2008.

the Madd has a almost cult status, difficult to find one for sale.

you could always convert a likely prospect to a twin

Hifly's parent company was sold a few years ago and they simply shut down the windsurf division so no new ones have been made for quite a while and you won't find one anywhere. People that own them seem to hold on to them until they die so not easy to find them used.

RRD does make some great alternatives in the 115, 135 and 155 twinzers.

Have a closer look here:

They discontinued the 115 now but I have a couple left on close-out so check with your nearest RRD dealer if you'd like to get your hands on one of the last ones.

Windsport wrote a great review of the 135:

Some of the Hifly shapes, including the Madds, have been picked up by Surfline Munich, and are available in Germany (and as rentals at Jibe City Bonaire).

They do not, however, seem to have a distributor in the US.

Exocet and RRD are really smart to offer twin fin free rides that work in real world conditions. The best HF was the largest, the Madd 165.

Exocet Twixx is the new offering from Exocet:

I've ridden all 3, and the 130 is my favorite.

This is my second season of windsurfing in the SF Bay. I bought the 135 RRD with Twin fin and love it. Spent some time before sailing a 141 Starboard Futura with a single much larger fin, and prefer the RRD a lot over that. Gets on a plane quickly and easily, footstraps are very straightforward to get into and it's fast from what I can tell comparing my speed to others on the water.

I have sailed the Hifly Madd boards for years and when I had to retire my 135 recently I was not sure what to do. Fortunately the Exocet Twixx came on the scene and I am happy to report that it is actually an improvement. The ride is much smoother and controlled especially as the winds pickup. My biggest surprise was it actually turns better. The verdict is still out on the stock fins but I have some good aftermarket fins to experiment with. Just wanted to post my two cents. Hope it helps.
Thought I would add a video of me sailing the board.
