Just ran across this article http://washington.state-parks.co/day-use-fees-in-wa-state-will-be-10-starting-july-1/

It looks like beginning July 1 it will cost $10/day or $30 yr. to park at The Hatchery, Dougs, and Maryhill which are all Washington State parks. Here's the Discover Pass website: http://www.discoverpass.wa.gov/ Looks like the wind isn't free anymore in Washington. Just wondering what people have heard. Question

In my opinion, wind is free. Parking and services are not. I think it's fair. Compared to the price of your windsurfing equipment, a pass is very cheap.

Where I live, we have very few access to decent windsurfing spots, no toilets, no parking, lots of "No parking" signs, etc. We are lucky to enjoy well managed windsurfing sites in Washington and Oregon State at a rather low cost.

Good Wind!

$30 for access to 3 - 4 Washington Windsurfing sites? Seems pretty cheap to me. (Actually $35 if you order it online). I like the idea of one pass for Washington. Much better than the different passes for different places in Oregon....

Hi Gorge Windsurfers-

Yes, it's true. After a long year of discussions and debates addressing Washington State's massive budget cuts, State Parks needed to find an alternative funding source to maintain these parks. Here's more information from their website:

Washington state is an outdoor lover's dream, and public demand for outdoor recreation opportunities on state lands continues to grow. However, the state's budget crisis makes it difficult to keep up with this demand. Shrinking revenues makes it impossible for current taxes to maintain existing facilities, let alone develop new ones

To ensure the public may continue to enjoy these recreation lands, the state must shift from relying on tax revenue from the state General Fund to a user-pay approach to pay for recreation. The cost to users is $30 for the annual Discover Pass or $10 for a day pass. Transaction and dealer fees may apply.

Three state agencies are working collaboratively to make sure you can enjoy some of the best that Washington has to offer: Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The local rangers are meeting soon and will get more information to us sometime next week, which I'll be sure to share here.

-Katie

Kiters have to pay $50 for the privilege of parking at Event Site and Marina.
I paid $100 for family pass of 4 vehicles (we all kite).
Additional fees for Rowena.
At least Rufus is free.
Washington is cheap in comparison.
Last weekend I kited up to Cheap and there was one car and one windsurfer there during good wind on Sunday.....

Sure it wasn't Saturday? That was the day of decent wind, 4.7 for me. Sunday was the day that Kiter/ WS or fishing boat almost drowned (see other thread)

Anyone know who's selling the Discover Pass in Bingen or WS? Or, anywhere else in the Gorge? Bridge Mart maybe?

TIA, Rob
