Sorry to say that the Federal Judge who was killed at this event was Arizona's chief federal judge, a republican appointed by gw bush.

Roll faced death threats in 2009 after presiding over a $32 million civil-rights lawsuit, the Arizona Republic reported:

When Roll ruled the case could go forward, Gonzales said talk-radio shows cranked up the controversy and spurred audiences into making threats.
In one afternoon, Roll logged more than 200 phone calls. Callers threatened the judge and his family. They posted personal information about Roll online.

"They said, 'We should kill him. He should be dead,' " Gonzales said.

Hey, Steven - thanks for making my point.

Regarding isobars' latest posts, one has to ask, what's up with this kook?

Paraphrasing Bill Clinton’s condemnation of such vitriolic rhetoric..."His is a loud and angry voice that spreads hate and by his own words leaves the impression that violence is acceptable".

For that (and for so many other indiscretions) Slick Willie should have been slapped silly! Fortunately Hillary is the better man. Smile

Bill and Hillary are married, and folks that are married have to live with each other, or divorce. Truly though, that's really none of our business. The whole Republican public impeachment nonsense was more of an embarrassment to their party. Trying to make the presidency a tabloid headline. Totally tacky, by any measure.

Interesting thought SW, since Arizona laws allow law abiding citizens the right to concealed carry why didn't somebody shoot back?

That's the conundrum with firearms. If you don't shoot first, you're dead. If you do, you're a murderer.

The 2nd amendment argument has been stretched way beyond its original scope. The idea of self-defense against an out-of-control tyrannical government using hand guns and pitch forks - a romantic school boy idea at best - has been augmented to include violence against your political opponents.

Face it: there are no suspended elections, no contested elections even (apart from Gore's non-victory in 2000 and that was conceded rather peacefully), no draft or compulsory service of any kind, no confiscations of private property. The points of contention are a health care bill that, thanks to ditching a public option, is basically a replay of a republican authored bill from the 1990s. Same with cap and trade etc. etc. I doubt what we have now would register on the founding father's scale of tyrannical governments.

Only, according to the new republican playbook, it's now defensible to take up arms against your fellow citizens after losing an election. Listen to Sharron Angle - that is precisely what she implied. I'd call this treason.

Come on mrgybe, you've been consistent in your stringent criticisms of the Obama Administration and the Democrats in Congress. Do you think that you're truly standing on the side of civility and others aren't?

Civility isn't necessarily defined on your terms.

No one is suggesting anyone give up their right to critique the administration. That is not the point.

I am waiting for - albeit not expecting - certain people specifically on the right to acknowledge that they have gone too far, and start their long march back towards civility.
