I must admit to enjoying Rupert Murdoch being hoisted slowly on the petard of his own corporate culture. Call it what you want, but it is not journalism. |

The News of the World was our dirty Sunday newspaper in those prim and proper days (for us kids) in the late 40's and early 50's.
We green lads (all boys schools) used to snigger at seeing the word intercourse actually in print, as on Monday morning playtimes, we scanned its pages from the safety of the bike shed. (Not that we had any actual experience of how intercourse took place, but that didn't stop imagination running riot.)
Times certainly change! |

Devoid of scruples, ethics, honesty. I wonder if those values extend into the US -- beyond Fox, that is. |

These days it's all about communication, and marketing the desired messages. Without a doubt, media is certainly changing. With the Supreme Court's decision to let corporate and union interests infinitely contribute money to influence elections, media is being strategically used to take advantage of both patent and veiled interests. The messages don't have to be totally honest, right or true.
It's like taking Karl Rove's ideas, and giving them far more promotional weight and exposure. The battle in the 24/7 cable news arena is just getting started.
I question whether all American citizens are really prepared for the challenge, and whether they can make the right decisions, interpret the true reality of things and not be pawns of the oligarchy. |

Err ... sorry Mat-ty, but apart from a 60's 'steam up' for one of the Supremes (Baby, baby, baby, where did our love go?) I'm a pop music denier, especially the 'rhythmic ranting' pain in the backside racket , nowadays.
Oh, very much forgot. Definitely add Nat King Coles 'When I Fall in Love' to the all time greats. Superb voice, superb lyrics, and sung with real feeling. They don't make 'em like that anymore!! |

Gurgle, You wound me sir! How could one be youthful and living in the UK during the 60s and only remember the Supremes and Nat King Cole!! What about the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Searchers, The Hollies, Manfred Mann, Spencer Davis, The Dave Clark Five, The Yardbirds, Dusty Springfield, Cilla Black, Cream, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Alexis Korner, Van Morrison................just to name a few!!! Don't tell me........you were too busy trudging 25 miles barefoot in the snow to school to notice such frivolity!! I'll grant you Howling Wolf and Muddy Waters from this side of the pond............but Nat King Cole!!
It's not too late.........buy a "Best of the 60s" album at Tesco and see what you missed!! |

My dear fellow, that lot were about, but went in one ear and out t'other when getting down to a bit of serious courting with a ravishing girlfriend, at one of the big Saturday night dance emporiums.
Hold her tight in that heady , scenty, dimly but sparkily lit atmosphere, and smooch along to Johnny Mathis (A Certain Smile) and it would take a big bite of tongue not to propose on the spot!
Mind you, my party piece was a 'reet good' take off of Lonny Donegans Rock Island Line, complete with guitar accompaniment and sound effects.
But dammit, I'd forgotten all that. You have no right reminding folks of their past, and forcing the taking of cold showers upon them.
Cease, I say! |

Mr GT,
I can see you are a true romantic, but my suspicion is that more
knickers would have dropped, if you'd been listening to Led Zeppelin's
"The Lemon Song" ;*)
There's still time.

I would have thought a romantic would have preferred that gentle Lonnie Donegan ballad "Does your chewing gum lose it's flavor on the bedpost overnight". As you say, they don't make 'em like that any more!! |
