When we could solve the food problem through the green revolution, the milk problem through the white revolution with the fast progress in modern science and technology, then why is there a problem with a lack of housing units for a vast section of the population? In addition, when the nation could make phenomenal industrial progress and are manufacturing everything from pins to planes after Independence, creation of ample social mass housing and eradication of slums in the major cities in Kerala in particular and all over the country in general is an unsolvable problem.
If both the Central and state governments adopt a practical solution as a National Policy and ensure its fail proof implementation, this gigantic human problem can be solved and that too without public funds. As stated earlier, this is possible only by Industrialization of Civil Engineering operations. Among the scores of building consultancies, the Larson & Toubro is the only engineering consultancy that has totally mechanized its various construction related activities. This is more evident in the final output in every building project taken up by this renowned engineering firm.
To build a home in Kerala, a customer can now hire the services of a leading builder or a prominent realtor, even if their services are a bit costly. Almost all the leading builders have mechanized their operations to some extent, even though investments into costly building construction machines and other equipments is not easy for these builders. Due to the vagaries in the real estate market, it remains to be seen as to how future developments are likely to take shape and the pay back period is on the higher side for small and medium builders. In the future, building construction activities will have to be totally mechanized due to the ever-growing scarcity of construction labor and due to the inability of the leading builders to deliver on the deadline agreed upon with their clients. |
