Speed sailor...speed kiter...all the same nowadays. Once they recognised kites as sailing craft they became speed sailors like the boats and windsurfers. Rob just broke the outright speedsailing record with a run timed over 500 meters at 55.65 knots! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iox_-1TAjE

Ultimately it's about power, the kiters are using 8 & 9 meter in 40 to 50 knots of wind, best a windsurfer could do, due to less leverage, is 4 to 5 meters in those winds. With double the power and no concerns with fins cavitating they are miles ahead...literally. Add in very shallow, dead flat water in a narrow purpose built canal and it's game over for boats and windsurfers as we know them.

Revolution! I like it! General public likes speedsurfing, I think. Just check out number of members on GPS-Speedsurfing site. Revolutionary idea could be money maker in this case as long as it doesn't mean spending $100,000 for retractable fin. Most of the time it is simple solutions that work rather than complicated ones. I'll take one knot gain any time. One by one......

Boris and Andrew, time for a road trip. Starting Wednesday we're in for three potentially great speed sailing days at ARooBar. Tides are good from 1:00 to 4:00 each day with some serious storms brewing in the Pacific. Who's up for pink slips on the speed strip!

I'm confirming now.

Boris - want to meet up in Williams off the 5 around 3 tomorrow?

I can tow with my 4runner v6. Don't know if you have a diesel better suited for the trip. Let me know.

Does your buddy want to join? How much gear do you want to bring?

Thanks,
Andrew

Roo - I'd throw down some cash. Whatever the group wants to do.

$100 buyin. Winner takes the pot? More or less on the buyin is cool with me too.

Top single 10s run.

Also, how's the wind tracking? Showing up early (Tuesday?). Late? (Friday)

Thanks,
Andrew

Forget the 10 second stuff, real man's distance 500m! Need to get you and Boris over 40 knots first, do I need to bring some spare speed boards? Wednesday looks sweet for ARooBar at the moment, other days still firming up.

500m works for me.

If you've got a spare large speed board, please bring along and I'll give it a go.

thanks,
Andrew

Andrew I'll dig out the Carbon Art SP47 for you and grab a few fins as well. I've got a new video camera with built in GPS to play with, should be fun to record a few crashes. I think 40.5 knots is the fastest 500m for the USA so we'll set that as a target.
