It looks like some unidentified large agency or nation used extremely sophisticated malware to shut down one of Iran's nuclear plants.

On the flip side, this cyberweapon could be used to freeze or even destroy any nuclear plant.

It's going to be interesting to watch this news unfold.

I gather you underestimate both its regional and global implications. This could earth-shaking news if it's true.

The world's best military and diplomatic minds are (were?) stymied about how to stop Iran from going nuclear and fulfilling its promise to take out Israel, which could easily lead to regional and global nuclear war (this isn't TR; it's military science combined with treaties our nation must honor). Israel had to attack very soon to stop Iran in time, but are likely to fail if Iran has sufficiently spread, concealed, and/or hardened its nuclear facilities. Even the U.S. may be unable to militarily take out Iran's nuclear weapon facilities (Obama promised he would do that if necessary to keep Iran from from going nuclear) if Russia blows off U.S. pressure and sells Iran its S-300 AA missile. Has Israel waited this long because they were forewarned of -- or maybe even produced -- this cyberweapon capability? Has Ahmadinejad been deliberately trying to goad Israel into attacking so he can glassify Israel in "self-defense"? If so, and if Israel did this, once again David may have slain Goliath with a pebble ... rather, a scalpel. Has the free world employed hackers to do what its military and political might cannot: stop or even prevent some wars bloodlessly? Can this weapon also melt down or even blow up a nuclear facility? Are ours at risk? Can it shut down computer-controlled manufacturing on a national scale (our manufacturing juggernaut won WW II)?

Politics is bullshit; this may turn out to be fascinating ... if it's not a false alarm.

Mike

Exactly. Or it might get even more interesting if the author(s) and the target(s) are not at all what the western media thinks they are. Or if this is a subtly crafted strategy by some obscure group pushing to police the internets even more...

The only obscure group I know of trying to police, or even develop the capability and authority to shut down, the internet is the U.S. government.

Such a weapon would be just as effective as the LOVE virus was on the CIA.
Hint-Their computers with vital info are not online.
After that virus missed me too,I bought a new computer and use my old one for internet and my new one for everything else.
