Exactly, this once a year stuff is nothing but a bunch of crap to make people feel better. It's an everyday thing, enough said.

I wish you would take that comment back Smile

Most of the few thousands of people who did this yesterday also practice it every day. This once a year bunch of crap still nets a non-negligeable bounty: http://www.insidebayarea.com/bay-area-news/ci_16173903

In the link above, you will note that mac & crew brought back kayac-fulls of crap from inaccessible parts of Point Isabel. My son and I had the same experience going through a bird sanctuary littered with plastics brought by the tides. It was hot and stinky and muddy, and it's not an everyday thing, and I don't see people doing this as an everyday thing.

You're right that it makes people feel better (or less guilty), it's kind of the concept of such events. But who cares, if it helps?

Easy now,NickB, I don't think NW was aiming that comment at you. Rather, at the yellow, pink, blue, multi-colored checkered, black, ad nauseum,"awareness" ribbon decaled," Livestrong" plastic wristband wearing BOZOS that drive their "Earth First" placard festooned, filthy dirty {conserve water, of course] Prius' and Volvos [did I mention Smart Cars?] to the beach and leave dirty diapers and Starbucks cups lying about. But, they care, you know! Bull

Thank you, I wasn't aiming it at anyone, it is just another spinoff of 'Earth Day', which I always thought was just another method of making us all feel better about ourselves, like a multicolored plastic wristband that says "I care because I'm wearing this, unlike you".
Or, the sign that people used to put in the windows of their car that said "Caution, precious cargo, baby on board".
I always wanted to make a sign that said "Caution, precious cargo, me".
Cynical? Yes, but I do care as much as anyone else, and I pick shit up all the time, and I get pissed that so many people let it pile up until that one day of the year when they feel obligated.

Hey Gregor! That's a right reserved for the Cabrillo sailors who get to witness, firsthand, how our friends from "down south" treat our beaches... complete with broken beer bottles and used diapers strewn around the parking lot, LOVELY!!! But you know that's just to show us how much they care too... Bull, out pickin' up trash!
