Tuesday 5 pm, SW wind already blowing 5.0 to 5.8 and some underlying small groundswell from Igor. With tomorrow's SW forecast waves should be good all day... and particularly at low tide. Gooseberry launch or the state beach has been allowing kiters and wsurfers there this fall. |

How does that wind direction work at Horsneck? Never been, thinking about pulling the trigger. It seems the wind if SW, is directly onshore or does the sailing happen off to the east of the point? |

On SW wind, it's side on, but the wave wraps a little making it easier to get out if you launch from the beach. We usually launch from the far East point, actually Gooseberry Island. If the wind is filled in to the beach, you can also launch from the main state beach which is a sandy launch.
The Gooseberry launch is actually OUTSIDE the wavebreak and you enter the water from the side of the wave, so it's easier to get going. However, you are wading out through big rocks. It looks scary, but is actually pretty easy if you've got a dependable water start and BOOTIES. |

I'm very interested in sailing Horseneck again. The couple of times a sailed there have been some of my most memorable sessions. I even saw a sea turtle swimming along once. Do you think the wind will hold up into mid - late afternoon? I'm on my way!

If you hit a south facing beach, odds are you hit it good.
A nooner at Kalmus with gusts into the upper 30s, on top of Monday's "faggie" llittle bay side session, will send me to bed by 9.
The mayor of Kalmus told be to quit talking and do more sailing.

6-10 foot faces, sideon 5.5 to 5.8 sails, 4 of us out, easy launch at Goose and relatively filled in to the beach where the wave faces were cleaner... then
Horseneck REALLY rocked on Saturday. Mast high+ sets of 2 or 3 waves , 6 second period, at a time breaking 150 yards out from the beach, then the usual 6-10 footers between them... smaller, cleaner stuff inside but less wind. 3 of us wavesailing, 5 or 6 kiters getting huge air. 5.3 - 5.8 sails, the usual lulls. During one lull, I got washed by one of those 15 foot faces and ended up on the beach, but I was able to sail out again. Nobody got hurt or broke anything. |
