Just scanned the Drudge Report, the credible bible for Right Wingers everywhere , linking readers to legit stories by the like of Andrew Breitbardt , and other Pulitzer winners. I noticed a headline referencing how cold SoCal has been this summer, probably why there is no wind. But I couldnt find the article about the rcord heat in the NorthEast, or the hottest period EVER for Russia, a pretty large country, or the one about the Globe's hottest 6 month period in history. Now, Im no scientist and i dont know a darn about Global Warming, who causes it , etc. But it is funny when the geniuses on Fox and Friends make fun of Global warming believers when its freezing out, but shut right up when the heat is unbearable for long periods of time.

Neither a cold winter, nor a hot summer, prove anything. It is the difference between weather--short term variation--and climate--long term trend. The long term trend is very clear for anyone not either brainwashed or with investments in carbon energy. There is a long term increase in temperature of about 1.5 degrees. That seems very small, and the deniers try to make it a matter of measurement error. Not. One and a half degree of heat stored in the oceans is immense, but the impacts are subtle--probably at least until I die.

In this case, the road to hell has been paved not by good intentions, but by right-wing lies, funded by the oil companies.

Meanwhile I have the heat on at my house, and it's the middle of August. Big Bear lake hit freezing last night, Mammoth still has snow from it's 50 feet of base.

I thought it was supposed to be hot in July and August anyway.....

This is a link to the site of the largest (so I heard) reinsurance company in the world, Munich Re. They have to care about the possibility of climate change since it has the potential to strongly affect their business.

http://www.munichre.com/en/media_relations/company_news/default.aspx?foid=2010-08-05

"... Climate change cannot be identified from individual events but our figures, backed by verifiable changes in meteorological data, indicate a trend towards an increase in extreme weather events that can only be fully explained by climate change.
The current state of knowledge leaves no doubt about the existence of anthropogenic climate change. Whether the current weather extremes are caused or intensified by climate change is uncertain, but there is considerable evidence indicating that climate change is involved at least to some extent. ..."

This company doesn't care about bias of scientists or ideology, they probably don't care about the environment and they don't even care what stevenbard or isobars believe in their corners. They only care about the bottom line of their business, and apparently they are very good at that. So what these business people have to say should be taken seriously even by the hardcore ignorants, and I can't see how conclusions that these successful business people base their business decisions on can be belittled by the likes of isobars and stevenbard.

Come Bard, why don't you folks simply wear some warmer clothes if it's a little cooler than normal? I guess it's much easier to burn a bunch of energy. Conversely, if it was hotter than normal, I'm sure that you'd elect to turn on the air conditioning.

In reality, given your mindset, I'm not really surprised that you readily practice that use and abuse philosophy, even at home. Why attempt to conserve?

Are you eager and willing to support building a slew of oil platforms off your local Malibu coastline?

A few weeks ago I came home with oil on my feet and on my board. I did a little research and found out that this "natural seepage" has been occuring for thousands of years. Millions of gallons of natural oil seepage have deposited layers of oil along the Santa Barbara/Malibu coastline over the last 100 years.

According to the experts, the best solution is to drill it out.

On the other hand, do I want platforms off my beach? No, I'd rather have them in the middle east or gulf.

But honestly, I'd love to buy a magical electric car that ran only on solar, but unless they're nuclear powered, all the pollution from Lithium and lead scare me too. Any of you guys have your 401k's in Obama's energy schemes? Maybe you can invest in the Chicago Climate Exchange. This is supposed to be a sure fire way to show your confidence in Obama's energy plan, and make a fortune too.

This last bunch of posts on health and heat show some interesting US social issues. The "politics trumps science" idea is largely American.
Global warming is not a political issue to big German companies or beach dwellers in Asia.
Only in the US are folks divided on this issue along political lines because Big GOP guys think global warming will cost them money, so we need to pretend it away.
The other big issue is fake news like Bard is posting. When I was a kid talk radio was respectable opinions of the announcer, generally a reasonable educated guy who often mentioned this was just an opinion.
Big GOP money figured out you can pay these guys to read BS in a news format and blue collars would believe it, if you only mentioned at 4AM that it was all "entertainment"
National Enquirer became the biggest selling paper in the US after that. Now we have the internet to post fake AP stories and the lies start to blend with the politics.
If American companies like Bards make decisions about money that ignore science and use politics to predict the weather, then American business will silently sink without a whimper.
We could wind up in a depression if the GOP takes charge and thinks in this fashion. Oh Yeah -that has already begun with Bush driving us under and a big hope that saying O is a Muslim and spending a fortune to get guys to post BS can bring back these same geniuses into power.
Other countries don't suffer this burden, including big German insurance companies.
To all who circulate fake news in America for short term political points
I ask you
'Thought about how important it is not to do this to your ignorant fellow Americans if you love your country?"
The dumbing down of America for profit is not really a joke.

Wow! keycocker isn't holding back here.

But frankly, I'm on the side of things that says that there's a lot truth in it. One only has to peek at much of the cable news and talk radio nonsense out there feature to see what's being boldly played. The internet side of things can take off from there, and it can be literally nuts.

I hate to think that Americans have become like stupid fish, just ready to be caught and used, and the process is only beginning to ramp up towards November.

To think that the Roberts court gave corporations, unions, and arguably churches, the right to spend untold sums of money to play fools. Unbelievable!

Socialism is destroying this countries potential.

All the major cities have been run by Democrats for decades. Just look at their economies compared to smaller more conservative cities. You could tax away all the money of all the rich people and you'd never be able to pay this madness off.

BTW: Bill Gates and Warren Buffet will never pay taxes, but will continue to control their own vast wealth for decades to come via chairitable trusts that they own and control into perpetuity.
