Hey Everybody,
I know it is still August, but Baja Windsurfing Season is just around the corner. Tyson Poor and I are already gathering up all the fun toys to make the journey South. We will be loading up my van and 16ft trailer Oct. 10th with 2 more ATV's, 25 windsurfing boards, 4 SUP's, 30 Sails, 18 Booms and waaay tooo many masts and extensions. (Check out the loaded van photo from last season attached).

San Carlos:
The first stop will be Punta San Carlos on the Pacific side to run a week long WaveSailing / Freestyle Camp with Solosports Adventure Holidays
October 16th - 23rd.
There is still plenty of room in the clinic with both Fly In and Drive In options. The week long adventure includes transport to and from San Diego, Accommodations, Windsurf Gear, Surf and SUP Boards, Full Suspension Mountain Bikes, All Your Meals 'n Snacks and my personal favorite... an OPEN BAR! stocked with as many icy cold Pacifico's as you can drink. We will have 7 days of top notch instruction with video analysis over dinner.

San Carlos is our favorite spot in the world to windsurf and the easiest place to learn how to wave sail. The waves are slow and crumbly with a deep bottom so it is really hard to get munched or break gear. The Side Offshore winds make it so you DO NOT have to be a good surfer to keep speed on the wave instead when you turn down the line you are on a broad reach so you have tons of power in your sail. Also Side Off winds mean that you can ride a half mile down wave and make it all the way back up to your starting point in one reach out, no tacking back and forth. Not to mention the wave is 7-8 bottom turns long so you get a lot of practice on a single wave. All that and the fact that San Carlos is so remote means crowds are not and issue, usually it is just Tyson, me and your fellow campers in the water. Whatever your level from barely jibing to the seasoned wave sailor, San Carlos is THE place to become a better wave sailor. So come on down and hang with us Oct 16th - 23rd.
Check out www.solosports.net and the attached poster for more info.

La Ventana:
After that Glorious Week, Tyson and I will be heading down to La Ventana to open up our NEW WINDSURF CENTER: PRO-WINDSURF LA VENTANA
for our second season. From November 1st - March 1st we will have 6 great casitas and two houses to choose from, all just one minutes walk from the beach where you will find our rigged and ready gear sheds stocked with 2010 /2011 Naish Windsurf and SUP Gear. You will have a chance to sail all the new stuff before it is even available in shops!

In addition to top notch instruction and brand spankin new gear we will be showing you all the cool snorkel and hiking spot around La Ventana on our sweet Honda Recon 250 cc 4-wheelers. These ridiculously fun toys will expand your knowledge of the area and allow you to get to all the incredible restaurants, drive up to the hills to go hiking along freshwater streams, or in abandoned gold mines, drive to the hot springs to build hot tubs in with the 137 degree water that comes bubbling out of the beach, and check out all the beautiful secluded beaches and snorkeling spots. So even if you plan to bring along non-windsurfers you are guaranteed to show them an exciting time exploring all the area has to offer (did I mention secluded beaches).

Catch an Alaskan Airlines flight from Los Angeles and just 1.5 hours later you will arrive in La Paz where we will pick you up, grab the best tacos ever and head 30 minutes over the hill to La Ventana.

La Ventana is the quant Mexican fishing village turned windsports mecca located on the azure blue waters of the Sea of Cortez, offers the perfect vacation destination for both sailors and their family members who are not so fond of blasting wind. Calm mornings and evenings allow for great snorkeling and sunbathing, while pm thermals get sailors ripping from 12:00-6:00. La Ventana boasts a growing handful of great affordable restaurants and small tiendas (grocery stores), all located a short beach walk from your casita. The vibe in LV is “Todo tranquillo” with friendly locals, and plenty of time for both windsurfing and exploring the 10 mile white sand beach.

For 2010 Our Windsurf Packages include:
- 7 Nights Stay at Pro-Windsurf La Ventana Resort.
- Unlimited Use 2010/2011 Naish Windsurfing Equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions about Pro-Windsurf La Ventana:

How to get there: Direct flights from LAX to La Paz (LAP) are available on Alaska Airlines. Mexicana and Aeromexico also fly into La Paz.

From La Paz you can either rent a car or take a taxi (or we can arrange to pick you up). The drive from La Paz to La Ventana takes about 40 minutes. Flights are also available into San Jose Del Cabo and are generally cheaper, although the drive from there to La Ventana takes 3.5 hours.

WIndy Season: The Bay of La Ventana is the perfect location for windsurfers of all abilities. Steady 4.5-6.0m side shore winds blow down the 10-mile white sand beach form November till March. Beginners enjoy the safety net of the L shaped beach that captures downwind drifters. While advanced and intermediate sailors will have a blast sailing the small breaking waves of the main sandbar or the bigger breaking waves of the Buffador (blowhole). The fact that on most days the wind is thermally driven means that conditions for all abilities can be found during different parts of the day. The mornings are great for beginners with lighter winds, then as the wind ramps up intermediate and advanced sailors will have fun blasting back and forth on long reaches. Both Tyson and I will be down there teaching our girlfriends to windsurf so there will be plenty of good girl power on the water. The best time for wind is Mid-November thru Mid-Febuary. (It always seems to nuke Christmas day and Thanksgiving).

Accommodations: Pro-Windsurf La Ventana offers 6 1Bed/1Bath apartments located just 1 minute’s walk form the beach. At your beach access you will find a fully stocked gear shed with rigged and ready 2009/2010 windsurf and SUP equipment just feet from the water. All apartments feature a large patio, minifridge to keep the cerveza cold and within reach, and access to an outdoor gas BBQ. Two apartments offer a rooftop terrace with views of the water and LV’s famous sunrises. We also have a 1 bedroom house with full kitchen that offers extended room for families that will be available most of the winter (except Dec 20 - Jan 23rd).
Gear: WE will have 2010/2011 Naish Gear for rent. Sessions, Boxers and All Terrains from 6.5 on down to 3.7. (I pretty much use a 5.0 the whole time.) Boards; we will have Naish Freestyle 90's and 100's, All Terrain 95, 104, 115 and a bunch of Global Waves 70, 80, 90. Plus a bunch of Naish SUP's. There can be a fun SUP wave in the mornings after a good blow. The SUP boards all have mast tracks and are great for beginners all the way to waterstarts. We also have a 152 L Bic Techno for those who are first learning to get into the straps and a big beginner board for first timers.

How far in advance do I need to book: This being our 2nd year we are starting off slow and we still have a ton of openings. Late signups are no problem, and if we do happen to be booked up we would be more than happy to help arrange something with one of the other places in town.

Fun beyond windsurfing: Non-wind activities abound in La Ventana, and we are happy to help guide you in maximizing your fun each day. World class snorkeling and sports fishing are two main draws. While hiking in the palm lined desert oasis creeks, ATVing to seclude beach and mountain locations, surfing and stand up paddling at the downwind beach break, beach volleyball, horseback riding, and Spanish classes are all happening on a daily basis. We can even show you how to build a hot tub on the beach at La Ventana’s very own hot springs where water bubbles out of the sand at 137 degrees F.
La Ventana for young kids: First off there is no mosquito issue which is nice.
The big white sand beach is only a 1 minute walk away from the house and apartments so running back for a bottle or a new diaper would not be a hassle. The ocean is generally glassy calm in the mornings until the wind comes up around noon, so a two year old could play in the water without the worry of being swept away. Right in front of the house the water is waist deep or less out to 25 yards. Water temperature is 64-74 degrees perfect for swimming, although a shorty or 3/2 wetsuit is nice for windsurfing from December on. All the apartments have big smooth concrete patios that children could crawl around on and a mini fridge. There is lots of folks down there with babies and I would generally think of La Ventana as being very safe for children. In fact the town is so small that most of the folks I know with kids 6 and up allow them to roam the beach playing with friends.

The vibe in town is very friendly and virtually crime free.

Also the only thing that keeps gringos from drinking the tap water is the high salt content and this causes restaurant food in La Ventana to be very safe as far as stomach ailments go.

The City of La Paz is only 40 minutes away and it has two full hospitals. Also the town of La Ventana has its own ambulance which will give you a ride direct to the hospital for $50 bucks.
