Thanks for all the tips, guys. I actually can surf (if only to save my life) in larger waves on a shortboard, it's just that surfing a long board (my SUP) uses different technique.
Namely, I think I need to take a big step back from the center paddle position just as I begin the drop in order to find the right location to engage the rocker. This is very different than dropping in on a windsurfer since our feet stay in the same position. I'm totally comfortable in waves if not a terribly excellent wavesailor. The smaller waves in which I've paddle are, however, a different sort of challenge. |
