kc--buried in the spin and misrepresentation of statistics by the right is a valid point--there are millions of guns already in the country. While I disagree with the Supreme Court decision, it is the law of the land, and we have to work with the areas in which they would allow regulation. Limitations on automatic weapons can be justified--but they have to cover assault pistols and large magazines. And those in favor of gun control can't put their head in the sand and pretend that it is a wholesale solution. Regular pistols and rifles are sufficient to guarantee us lots of suicide (the most common death associated with a firearm) and armed crime. The difference would be that it would be harder to spray bullets around everywhere in an urban drive-by shooting. Limitations on large magazines, that entail registration (why not for guns and bullets if for voting), a waiting period for cool-off, and mental competency might reduce the incidence of mass shootings. But guns obtained legally are stolen, and outlaws will still have guns. I'm just looking to reduce their firepower and up the cost.

The earth's temperature and its fluctuations are science; what man should do about them has become enormously political nationally and internationally.

It was several years ago, so the numbers are only a close approximation, but here goes. The county including Orlando, Florida has something like 60 rapes one year. The fed-up Attorney General strongly advised -- maybe they even required -- all women to acquire handguns and gave virtually all of them concealed carry permits. Next year there were two rapes in that county ... and the neighboring county rape incidence rose accordingly.

There are hundreds of hard statistics proving the absolute fallacy of outlawing all guns in the U.S., with virtually the only arguments in favor of it are emotional or anecdotal. I particularly resent the hell out of people living in unarmed societies trying to impose their sheltered and unrealistic ideas on a nation which was created thanks largely to armed citizens, which subsequently added that right to their Constitution, and in which that toothpaste is already out of the tube. Besides, my right to defend myself against deliberate, criminal bodily harm is inherent in my very existence, not something some damned government has any right to take away from me. That's also in our Constitution, BTW, so foreigners have zero right to tell us how to live our lives internally.

I have to say isobars, that's one of the sanest things you've mentioned here on this topic. Of course we differ on the "political" solutions, but I think that we can depend on scientific study and peer review to plan our direction and commitment into the future.

A government agency "maybe they even required -- all women to acquire handguns and gave virtually all of them concealed carry permits"
Required to buy a gun with your own money.
If one of isos stories becomes true many women who once had the right NOT to own a gun are gonna be pissed.

When I bought a hand gun the crime rate in my county went down the next day- must have been my gun.It changed the day after too, and the day after that.... must have been my gun. Changed in the next county-could my gun have caused that?
On the other hand -In my high school sometimes a farm kid would have a pocket knife but we had to fight over girls with our fists. Now the metal detectors at the doors find weapons inc. guns every day.
A least a few kids get shot every year now, but no deaths so far this year,
Fighting over girls is less fun in a society drowning in handguns. Just think how much safer our kids are nowadays.
Lets get a burger. In McDonalds a drunk kid was joking with his cousin the cashier. Maui style lotsa bad words.
Guy behind him mistook it for harassment and ordered the drunk kid to stop. Kid staggered into him. Guy shot him dead with his concealed and is now in Maui County.
Dont let your kid get a burger in a society drowning with guns.

Antarctic Sea Ice Sets Another Record
Daniel Malavassi Wow, talked about bias. Clearly this person doesn’t understand the difference between “Climate Change” and “Global Warming”.304 comments, 34 called-out + Comment now + Comment now
Antarctic Iceberg (Photo credit: NOAA's National Ocean Service)
Antarctic sea ice set another record this past week, with the most amount of ice ever recorded on day 256 of the calendar year (September 12 of this leap year). Please, nobody tell the mainstream media or they might have to retract some stories and admit they are misrepresenting scientific data.

National Public Radio (NPR) published an article on its website last month claiming, “Ten years ago, a piece of ice the size of Rhode Island disintegrated and melted in the waters off Antarctica. Two other massive ice shelves along the Antarctic Peninsula had suffered similar fates a few years before. The events became poster children for the effects of global warming. … There’s no question that unusually warm air triggered the final demise of these huge chunks of ice.”

Don't Believe The Global Warmists, Major Hurricanes Are Less Frequent
James Taylor
NPR failed to mention anywhere in its article that Antarctic sea ice has been growing since satellites first began measuring the ice 33 years ago and the sea ice has been above the 33-year average throughout 2012.
