Lake Mohave? It's about 5 hours I think, but it does pick up the N wind. Will be in LA this week, and then hopefully the Santa Anas will kick in and I can try this spot out next week. |
Lake Mohave is a sick spot! We went there about a year ago, on a south wind. Really warm water, lots of lagoons with butter smooth water for flatwater freestyle stuff.... I was lit up all day on my 5.0 / 85 liter board.
San Felipe is another great place, on a Santa Ana, but it is quite a drive.

At Mohave, we stayed at a cheap hotel in Searchlight, NV. In San Felipe we camped at a bay 30 km south of the town and sailed right from our campsite.

I have sailed the lake many times....Most people sail the cabin site on a north wind. It will work on a south wind but six mile cove near search lite is better for this direction. The north wind can get extreme this time of year. The water does get very cold and the wind has a real bite to it. Oct. Nov. are nice but after that I'm out. That said, the south wind can raise the air temp from 50 to 70 degrees and the sailing is much more comfrontable. Stay at the casino's for a hot shower anf cheap food. You can get a room for under 30 bucks mid week. Haurrah's is the best of them all. Check National weather service for wind forcasts. I sailed the cabin sites 3 days in the middle of Oct. South wind 5.5 sail no boats or jet ski's. The wated is very clear. It was still warm and air temp was 85. ............Tony
