Friday looked epic. This morning at West Dennis was pretty good, pretty pretty good.

Cheers,

Well that's it. A very nice day, no go on the surf with ankle high waves up at Whitecrest. 6 or so surfers at Nauset Light trying to make the most out of nothing.

Next event - Veteran's Day!

Video- Nice tabletops! I've never seen one of those done in New England. I guess I don't sail in Chatham enough.

I just read Steve's weekend report. After finishing up repairs to my O'neill the next item will be the knee of my Bare. I suspect that the Bare suits fail at the knee because the glues used for the non-skid. Mine is ready to go but in the vertical direction.

Noting that you (Steve) are a true hard core winter sailor, please keep us posted on the repair job or it's replacement.

Ron,

I had the same issue with my Bare at the knee. Looks like the knee pad area likes to pull off, cutting into the underlying material.

I used rubber cement, works great so far. Now I use my Bare instead of a steamer in the fall and spring.

Ron,

I just heard from another Bare Polar Dry owner who had the same knee problem. He sent his suit to Bare for new knees. I'm doing the same.

The other problem that seems to be common to these suits is that the waterproof coating sometimes peels off from the nylon after 4 or 5 years. Bare says there is no cure for that one but I'm trying a tent sealer on an older suit that is otherwise O.K. (I have 2 Polar Drys and both are falling apart). If the tent sealer works I can sail next weekend. If not I'm going to be an ice cube.

I'm dreaming of a goretex drysuit with every windsurfing blog I write.

Both the neoprene & the nylon seem to have a short shelf life.

I know of another local Polar Dry owner that has had the same nylon problem too so it isn't just 1 bad suit that they made. The nylon seems impossible to repair. The tent waterproofing didn't work. I suspect that most full baggy suits by other companys use a higher quality cloth then Bare used in the Polar Dry, at least I hope so. I haven't heard of full baggies delaminating like this.

I'm starting to shop for a breathable drysuit with front entry, relief zipper, and attached socks, maybe Kokatat, NRS, or OS. Does anyone have a suit with these features that they can recommend?
