I am saddened to announce the fall of yet another Crissy Field windsurfer. Ted Lowe died in a car accident while returning home from work on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009. He was only 43 and grew up and went to College in Richmond, Virginia. He moved to SF in 1990. I'm not sure how long he's been windsurfing. Anyone?
Ted was an avid windsurfer, skier, rock climber and mountain biker. He could be found at Crissy Field on any given windy day with his Exocet board and Ezzy sails, zipping around at mach speed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
We know that you're up there Ted, sailing with Paul, Bill and Brett in perfect dreamlike and heavenly conditions.
Sail On, Ted, Sail On!
If anyone has a photo of Ted. Please post it. Check here or email me for a schedule of Ted's memorial service. jrathle@sbcglobal.net

Unbelievable. My prayers for his family. How weird the parking lot will be next year. An era of transition right now. Rest in Peace Ted.

Dear Low Family,
This is a great loss, truly a wonderful guy; I really enjoyed windsurfing with Ted under the Golden Gate Bridge. The large swell by the North tower in an ebb tide was one of his favorite spots. He had a good session out there a few weeks ago, and said it was one of his best days in the zone all season.
Since the Mid 90’s many of us had loads of fun hanging out around his old Toyota Van, at Crissy Field on the city front beach. We had good conversations this summer, he sat across from me at an October 10th dinner for another fallen windsurfer Bill Weir, who Ted had given moral support, and assistance to during this past year.
I also enjoyed talking shop with him about building, another one of his many talents as a Renaissance man.
The San Francisco windsurfing community will miss him dearly.
May our thoughts, and Peace be with you, Adam Darriau

Does anyone know why the post was censored and/or deleted? To me, it sounded like a heartfelt invitation to celebrate Ted's life with fellow windsurfers. But I could see how, to others, it might seem like a chest-thumping advertisement from a windsurfing blow-hard.
Personally, I was interested in the accommodations at a "low rate." According to sources on Maui, it is hard to obtain rentals on the North Shore.
