| We are safer. I don't view any of the above countries as a threat, militarily. Our lack of support for Mubarrak as Egypt fell, was a stark difference to the Cheney policy, which created Saddam Hussein...I appreciate that. His acknowledgement that Pakistan was not our good buddy, as Bush/Cheney presumed was essential and insightful in getting Osama. I think Bush was worried about Paksitani relations. I think subtle nuanced foreign policy is quite effective, and patience is actually a plus. When dealing with Iran, what can we do? we have two choices....bomb them or economic sanctions. Isreal is a strong ally no matter what, BUt, I would submit that Obama has been less than adequate in dealing with her. |

IL senator Obama demanded in 2007 that defense contractors must give employees the 60 days notice required by the 1998 WARN Act before any layoffs ... It's the law and you must obey it. "We must give the WARN Act teeth."
2012 presidential candidate Obama issued this week a letter to defense contractors to ignore the WARN Act this time ... laws don't matter.
Why the flip flop? Because this time compliance with that law will reveal just days before the election that Obama plans to disembowel military spending for a decade beginning in January, potentially costing Obama millions of votes if revealed on Nov 1. i.e., neither federal law nor national security means a damn thing to this man if they interfere with his election.
Most of you will have to Google it, because like Obama's outright lie about still having Churchill's bust at the White House, it's not likely to appear on the Mostly Stuff NoBody Cares about network. |

One has to wonder whether folks in the private sector get 60 days notice. I would tend to doubt it.
It's hard to believe that one that is so adamant about letting CEOs do what they want in private business seems unsettled by similar rules for government employees. If it came down to government pensions for state, local or union folks, I'm sure that our character from the Great Northwest could care less, given his past rants about the socialist forces trying to overtake America.
Could it be that President Obama is getting more business-like over time? Some could argue that Obama is moving more to the right these days. |

| So the Republicans threaten to run the economy into the ditch--again--over the debt ceiling. They refuse to address any of the issues that it would take to get a debt relief agreement done and through Congress---triggering automatic cuts under existing law. And it is all Obama's fault. Did anyone mention that Mike was born in Alabama? Thinks it was a great place to grow up--for him. |

I knew it! Thus I looked.
Typing four letters and clicking on one link revealed this about the WARN act:
Employer Coverage:
In general, employers are covered by WARN if they have 100 or more employees, not counting employees who have worked less than 6 months in the last 12 months and not counting employees who work an average of less than 20 hours a week. Private, for-profit employers and private, nonprofit employers are covered, as are public and quasi-public entities which operate in a commercial context and are separately organized from the regular government. Regular Federal, State, and local government entities which provide public services are not covered.
Ignorant, lazy, uncaring, ideological, blind sloths all. Damn the facts and Vote for Obama. |

Mikey, it's unpatriotic of you to refer to our esteemed GOP Congressmen and Senators in that tone of voice.

Why, yes, of course. All thinking, educated, caring people will. |

Largely courtesy of Byron Williams' column today:
--When Obama took office, the GNP was declining at 8.9%
--The bailout that some here have said wasn't working--has in fact 1.45 million people working as a direct result, plus the indirect impacts of the money they spend
--Bush used a number of accounting gimmicks to make the deficit appear smaller than it actually was
--The president's policies have created more than 4 million jobs over the past 27 months according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics--which exceeds the previous seven years
--While private sector jobs have increased by 4.3 million, public sector jobs have decreased by 636,000, including nearly 300,000 fewer Federal employees
And of course, to add my own touch, lest we forget that it was Republican-written deregulation of the banking business that led to the direct loss of $10 trillion in American wealth, and the location of the economy in the emergency room when Obama took office.
But the competent president, who lobbied through a health care bill that the Congressional Budget Office says will reduce Federal costs, is described as ineffective by the out-of-touch greedy. |

Bush became a progressive with the help of the Democratically controlled congress in 06. Both sdes are culpable, however, Obama cannot grow this economy without the help of small business. Big business and big government cannot do it.
Small business as I've said before are witholding any investment until Obama leaves office. I'm beginning to think we will be better off with Obama so the entire system collapses. With his insane policies of spending and regulation, we will be Greece in 5 years.
They'll still be blaming conservative of course. |
